Cupholders on shopping carts.......really? |
|
Giant new supermarket opened near me. Impressive as hell and I'm glad to see it. The carts have cupholders on them. For some reason it seems wrong. Really? As a nation we can not put down the coffee for few minutes while we shop? Sometimes the small things like this bother me .
The warning label on the cupholder says Don't put a child AND a hot coffee in the seat TOGETHER! Thanks for the tip.
The other side of me... Says it a nice convenience for somebody. Why did it take so long?
What do you think?

1. Giant is an evil Ahold company and is way overpriced. Avoid it like the plague. |
|
I live within walking distance of one but rarely set foot in there other than to drop off a RedBox DVD that I rented elsewhere. Even with their "Bogus" card, the prices are far higher than the locally owned chains (which we are fortunate to have). On the other hand, if you are really into fruit fly infestations, that's the place to go!

7. I'm not sure whether the OP is referring to The Giant or a giant grocery store. |
|
We have Giant's here, though we prefer Food Lion because it is a LOT less expensive. Harris Teeter is even more expensive than Giant.

no Dunkin's but they have one of those coffee dispenser machines right near where you first enter and grab the cart.
The Teamsters union is boycotting Dunkin Donuts so I've been avoiding them for about a year.

and I haven't seen any fruit flies.
And you do know, I suppose, that Giant was 'locally owned,' in Maryland, very successful, and was acquired by Ahold a few years ago?

35. Yes, I was aware of that. They used to have decent prices too - prior to the "Bogus" card thing. |
|
In years past I shopped at Giant because it had good prices. I remember commenting to my wife that something was up because the costs of certain things were steadily increasing at Giant while remaining constant at the other stores I shopped at. I gradually phased it out because it was now one of the "expensive" stores and shortly afterward they introduced their "Bogus" card with much fanfare and advertised prices for people who used one that were STILL higher than the other stores. I occasionally glance over their advertisement in the Sunday paper for a good laugh - Giant actually managed to convince people they were saving money by only paying ridiculously high prices instead of the outrageously high "normal price".

There was a Trader Joe's and a Fresh Fields, but neither was in a regular "community center" shopping plaza. At least the Safeway within walking distance sold beer.

I quit shopping at the one near us and told them exactly why:
The store is dirty; the floors and surfaces are a disgrace.
The produce is in poor condition.
The milk's temperature is not handled correctly, and the milk often spoils very quickly.
The meat is often rotten or near-rotten.
They purposely cut their roasts so there is a line of gristle right down the center.

Our local store is pretty good about not rearranging (as long as the college kids can find the chips and alcohol, the store will be in the black!) but we used to shop at a Winn Dixie that I swear turned everything around at least once a month - it was incredibly annoying...

(Because they are so big. Get it?)
So they've got cupholders. I don't see how that's the end of the universe. As a parent who has shopped with toddlers, I see it as a convenient way to hold sippy cups.

My local Publix supermarket has free motorized wheelchair/shopping carts, so the infirm can sit 'n shop. So does Walmart. Since I herniated a disc a few months ago, they've been a life-saver. I know Walmart is Teh Evil, but I'd like to thank them for getting at least one thing right.

My backpack/purse has a water bottle holder on the side so that's what I use. Publix provides sani-wipes to wipe down the cart handles, but IMO they are still nasty. People go shopping when they're sick and sneeze over everything.

You'd appreciate a cup holder on your cart to hold your water bottle. It's so blooming hot here you need to tote liquids if you don't want to collapse in the middle of the parking lot. I stick with unsweetened coffee and plain old H2O myself.
