What have they done to the OREO?
I was all set to have a half a dozen Oreo cookies for the first time in a long time. MY milk was ready and the first dip was under way. I tasted my Oreo and looked at the wife, these aren't right. My wife says we bought a pack awhile ago and they didn't taste right either. Have they taken away an ingredient or changed the recipe and I never heard? Maybe they have gone the way of the Wendy's fry.

2. They did something to Chips Ahoy, too.
My husband has loved them all his life. Even when we were kids, I remember him liking those cookies. (We were neighbors).

Now he doesn't buy them any more. They changed something. He won't eat them.

Do all these fools think we can't tell when they change something?

3. It's not that they know we can tell,
but how good their marketing campaign is to make us love the new and reject the old. Commercials are pretty insidious that way...

6. took the lard out of the filling
oreo cookies had lard in the creamy filling but they took it out before and the public rejected it then also

8. Don't ask me - I Liked Hydrox and they are long gone. Oreos just never were 'right'
These days if I want good cookies, I have to make them myself. None of my favorites from my childhood taste like they should. Thin mints (girl scout cookies) have tasted like crap since Little Brownie took over the baking and now some other el cheapo cookie company is making them. Pecan Sandies taste like they were made with sand and almost no pecans. I can't even find the lemon cookies I used to love.

Now that it is holiday season, I need to dig out the cookie recipes I can make that I like. Oatmeal cookies with pecans; chocolate chip Toll House cookies; peanut butter chocolate chip cookies; lemon tea cookies. Mmmmmmmmmm!

I liked their filling because it was harder and grainy :D
Maybe they didn't use lard in it...

Oh, have you made biscotti? I have a thread from last year in the Cooking & Baking forum for making them, or at least showing the process in photos. If you want recipes, PM me :)

20. Mmmm - those look good. I saved the thread so I have your pictures and recipes!
But with the shape of some family members' teeth, I'd better stick to softer cookies. Plus, I am not sure my knees could handle the time needed to make biscotti. I've been baking cookies in stages - mix the dough, refrigerate overnight. Spend an afternoon baking (with hubby's help).

Last year it took me several afternoons to bake since my arm was not in shape enough to scoop out dough for more than a few cookie sheets. This year I may make logs and slice the cookies, though I do like the preciseness of using a small scoop.

At least this year I have a Kitchen Aid mixer to help - it looks just like yours! I found it on Craigs List for very little and it has made a big difference in my bread making. That is most of my baking and the KA makes it so much easier since it does all the kneading for me. I used to make huge batches of bread - 5-6 loaves at a time, all mixed by hand. but I had to quit when I hurt my shoulder and had my first joint reconstruction. With my second shoulder surgery last year, it is still easier to let a machine do the work!

21. Even small bakeries don't do dough-mixing by hand.
Better to use the 20-qt Hobart ;)

I've done some from-scratch made-by-hand bread making, but it's more effort than it's worth and the KitchenAid does as good a job on that. I've found my Breadman breadmachine also mixes (and rises) the dough nicely, enough that I now use it whenever I make olive loaves :) Then all I have to do is the hand-forming and baking in the oven.

The biscotti dough also refrigerates well, so you could easily divide it up and bake a little at a time. Maybe get your husband to do the cutting as that can be a lot of work.

As for biscotti being too hard to eat, they were created for dunking into coffee and tea, or other hot drinks. That softens the cookie considerably as well as imparting the flavor of the drink :9

That was when most of my time was spent cleaning stalls, training horses and moving feed and hay - and thought nothing of it. I had more strength than money and could not find a KitchenAid for less than list price in this town. Then I got hurt, had to have my shoulder rebuilt, got a lot older, had a bunch more surgeries, and generally just got old.

I got back into bread making when I found a nearly new Oster bread machine for $10 at a thrift shop. I used it to mix the dough and do the first rise, then would shape it and let it rise in a pan and back it in the oven. When I saw the KitchenAid on Craigs List, I could not resist and have been so happy ever since. The only complaint is that I cannot pick it up so I have to leave it out on the counter. If we ever put in a kitchen island, I will put in an appliance lift for it!

I'll try the biscotti someday, but my cookie baking is already planned for this year.

You used to have to scrape it off with your teeth. Now if you pull at an edge with your fingertip, it peels right off. It's way too soft and greasy. That's not right.

I eat Fritos maybe two times a year at a party or superbowl or something. Now, they don't taste the same. No greasy feeling in your mouth. Well, no flavor really.

15. Girl scout cookies have been changed and all the names of them too...
They got a new baker and all the names of the old cookies have been changed because of it. I haven't tried any of the cookies, but have been informed of the change.

22. last time i bought them a yr ago, the middle seemed waxy. tried another bag and the same
figured they changed recipe on it. i use to buy them and were always the same.
