Poll question: OK - fave Christmas song... |
|
yes, I watched "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" tonight.
I love Christmas time. All the twinkling lights and shiny things. And the happiness and good will toward our fellow travelers upon this big planet.
And I also have been listening to Christmas music on my car radio. (other than the occasional metal song)
So, anyway, what is your fave Christmas song?

I never remember the name of it, or any of the words, except the part that goes:
Gloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooorrrrriiaa something something something (angels we have heard on high?)
I don't know . . .
mostly I hate christmas music.

That's how we were taught to pronounce the refrain. :)
Yes, it's "Angels We Have Heard on High".

I don't mean that one. Heck, I know the title of that song.
It's more of an opposite-of-christmas song, wouldn't you say?
christmas is "supposed to be" about Jesus' birth, (setting aside the solstice aspect)
this song starts, Jesus died . . .
But I do really like this song.

The Snoopy one is good but I just like different stuff. I love Christmas music (it's ok, I know I'm a dork) and have about 18 hours of it on my iPod. A few faves: I Wonder as I Wander - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ggxf84z8MPoSomeday at Christmas - Stevie Wonder's version - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZ1-duv_zNkSnoopy's Christmas by The Royal Guardsmen - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jlf---13Q0gJohn Rutter's version of Away in a Manger http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQbLLowNgSIJohnny Marks' version of I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day, Sarah McLachlan singing - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qn_1-z0d7iQ

From a Xmas parody cd called "Blame it on Christmas". The singer is a Frank Sinatra sound alike. The song is borderline sacrilegious.

...I really like Elvis' "Blue Christmas."
I love the Christmastime decorations and colored lights also. I'm not a Christian, but I love the trappings of the season. Reminds me of some good memories of Christmases past (WAY past), and hopes for a better future.

16. Another vote for Carol of the Bells. |
|
I have to admit I am a sucker for traditional carols sung in traditional choral style. I tend not to like pop-rock versions of them, or stuff like "Jingle Bell Rock."
Although I DO like some very non-traditional Christmas songs, like "Father Christmas" by the Kinks, "Jesus Christ" by Big Star, "A Child's Christmas in Wales" by John Cale, and of course "Christmas With the Devil" by Spinal Tap.
So I guess it's either be traditional or be original, but don't be in that mushy middle.

Venite adoremus, Venite adoremus, Venite adoremus Dominum!
(aka O Come All Ye Faithful)
Also, very partial to "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen" (let nothing ye dismay).

21. Incidentally, I LOATHE |

"I saw Mommy Doing Santa Claus", or whatever it is.
I just can't hear it without thinking nasty thoughts about what the kid actually saw his mother doing to the fat man in red.
I'd be emotionally scarred, myself.

27. I checked I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus because it has a |
|
vivid place in my mind. I was a kid when it was first released and the brouhaha over the song was so severe that it was banned. All of a sudden it was gone from the airwaves and could not be heard again for years. There are many I like better but this banning business made an indelible memory. Why, it would have corrupted our little minds!
Fun, silly song. Major stupid reaction to it by many folks.
