1. Your Anonymous 4 is a repeat of Chanticleer. |

Here's one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rr-csOGecGcThey're all good, but I'm partial to King's College, myself.

a Connecticut madrigal group featuring a dear friend that, alas, existed before the age of YouTube.
I hope Mom still has the Christmas tape I gave her. We'll see in a few weeks.

3. Kings College Choir: A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols |

It's usually broadcast on tape delay each year on PBS and American Public Radio. I am a sucker for high Anglican.

6. Both Minnesota and Oregon Public Radio broadcast it live |
|
It's 9:00AM on Christmas Eve Central Time, 7:00AM Pacific, but MPR also broadcasts a taped version on Christmas Day afternoon.
And King's isn't even the only top-notch choir in the UK. This is a country that has an annual Choir of the Year contest, featuring choral groups of all ages in all genres, but among the church music choirs, St. John's College Cambridge, New College Oxford, St. Paul's Cathedral, and the Salisbury Cathedral girl choristers are especially fine.

4. I love the King's College Choir |
|
One year in college, we did an entire concert of John Rutter's arrangements of Christmas carols at a shopping place I don't even know how to describe but it was one of the best experiences of my life. Absolutely fell in love with the music and have loved it ever since. Very "King's College" like stuff.

5. one of my pandora stations is choral christmas songs |

Tallis Scholars, Kings College, etc. I also really love Handel's "Messiah." it's becoming a tradition of mine to go see a performance of the Messiah every year before christmas. Just got my ticket for the Baltimore Symphony's perfomance. Can't wait! I think the Messiah is one of the true Masterpieces of music.

10. ooh, great idea! I just signed up for Pandora recently. |
|
Have you seen the "silent" Messiah video by high schoolers- quite amusing.
It is beautiful. But if you check out the choirs and ensembles who do period music, you will see more of the history and roots of music from that time. Highly recommend a Ren/Baroque concerts since they explain the periods of music and history in great detail and the music is equally beautiful.

15. HA! Finally a thread I can chime in on! |
|
Most recently I have been studying 'O Magnum Mysterium' by the Spanish composer Victoria. I did an analysis a few weeks back on a piece called 'Aeterne Laudis Lilium' by the obscure English Renaissance composer Robert Fayrfax.
Aside from academic work, I enjoy anything by the Cambridge Singers - but specifically, the old standards from the Oxford Book of Carols.
