Beer with fruit just makes me frown and wrinkle my nose a little. Although it can be done. Corona with lime (fresh lime, not bottled with lime), for instance. And then there's one I tried last month. Abita Satsuma Harvest Wit... It's kind of a Louisiana thing. Louisiana Satsumas are somewhat bitter for citrus in the first place, so the flavor is mostly wheat beer with a mild hint of bitter orange. Just enough to smooth the aftertaste.
Sweet and beer don't work. Bitter or acidic and beer can be pulled off. In my experience.

Citrus has special status but I sure hate sweet alcoholic drinks of any variety!

10. The only issue with fruit beer... |
|
...is that a lot of the Lambic beers are very sour indeed. They need the fruit to balance out the sourness.

This summer my husband and sister sat around the pool drinking some sort of beer concoction that was blueberry flavored. I just have to ask, why?

Although I don't know of anyone down there who adds ribena to American beer.
As to American beer, it used to have a terrible reputation but we are getting more and more US craft beers over here and some of them are excellent. I had an Odell Cutthroat Porter (Doug Odell has done collaboration beers with both Thornbridge and Dark Star in the UK) and a Brooklyn Chocolate Stout last night.

3. My friend brought it over for thanksgiving. |
|
Here I know that he likes Canadian Whiskey so I get some Wiser's, and as the beer he gets a 6 of cherry wheat and 6 Oktoberfests (those are good though). Could have told him the cherry wheat blows, but I didn't want to discourage my less experienced chum. Meanwhile I have the leftover beer because I cracked open a double bottle of wine during the second football game.

8. Raspberry is fine. There's just something about the taste of cherry beverages that's hit or miss. |
|
On the one hand there are great cherry beverages like Cherikee Red, Dr. McGillicutty's cherry schnapps, cherry juice, and Kirschwasser.
Then there are cherry drinks that suck. Like Cherikee Red mixed with vodka or this cherry wheat beer.

Floris and Timmermans are both pretty good. Although the best fruit beer IMHO is Floris Passion Fruit. Mongozo Coconut beer is superb but be sure to have it in a glass and not the bottom bit of a coconut.
Had a Cherry Stout in the Sheffield Tap yesterday. Not to my taste. May end up drinking the Brooklyn Chocolate Stout on my next visit there.

14. Try the Belgian fruit beers |
|
And keep to the weaker ones. Frulli, Floris, Mongozo and Timmermans all make great fruit beers. The stronger ones can be a bit on the sour side for my taste.

29. So this one time (no not band camp, another time)... |
|
A good friend and home brewer entered a very nice raspberry weizen in a home brew contest in Philly...
When he got the results a few weeks later the judges gave him a third in class. Their comment was that it "needed more cherry".
I'm pretty sure they got to it late in the judging...

31. I'm about to brew a lemony weiss... |
|
Just a little lemon zest added during secondary fermentation. I'm hoping for something resembling Blue Moon, but lemony out of the bottle instead of orangy after having it added to your glass. I was going to do it today but had to work at the last minute. This will be my 20th brew, and my first all grain.
I'm also going to brew a batch of cannibis beer soon. Depending on how it turns out, I just may go into the cannibis beer business. I'm told good cannibeer goes for $15 or more per bottle at the pharmacies here in SoCal. I'm not really getting into it for the profit so I'm pretty sure I can get it done for $10.
My ultimate goal is to start my own microbrewery. I was going to call it "Three Sheets" but damn, that's been done already. I live in the mountains at 6700 feet, so there are lots of other possibilities as far as the name goes.
When I brew, I like to have a toke or two, and there is ALWAYS good music playing, usually Blues. I like to put the yeast on the subwoofer before I pitch it. I like my beer to be born happy and well-adjusted. Seems to have worked so far.
