1. you say it;s interesting yet it isn't interesting enough for you to say what it is
what's the deal with all the inconsiderate posts on DU and for that matter on the internet at large where you are expected to click and click and click and chase to find out the final answer?

if the idea wasn't interesting enough for you to say something about it, then i'll be the judge that the article is of no value because you yourself weren't interested enough to say anything about it

are you related to the website owner and just trying to collect clicks?

3. Some psych meds cause extreme sleepiness
When you're tired all the time, you don't have motivation to exercise. Some psych meds also slow metabolism and give you the munchies--at the same time--no wonder so many people on psych meds are heavyset.

5. They also block neurotransmitters
They can just plain slow metabolisms too. One of the biggest crimes I saw in the pharma industry regarding unexpected weight gain was with Avandia. Avandia was a med used to treat diabetes type II, so it helped to lower blood sugar short term, but increased the need for it because it caused weight gain. It was finally taken off the market after causing strokes and heart trouble...for years.

4. I gained over 60lbs while on Lexapro
I've yet to be able to get it off and yet people think I was just being lazy and eating poorly. They had no idea that the Lexapro, although keeping me happy, made me have absolutely no initative to do anything.

If I could just get those 60lbs off I would be excited but at my age losing weight gets harder and harder.

6. Ask about Bupropion
It is Wellbutrin. It is now being combined with Naltrexone to be used as a weight loss drug. Also, losing weight gets harder with age and it will also come off of places you don't want it too, like your face, so go slow.

7. At this point I will not do anti-depressants ever again
I have my depression intact and I've done Wellbutrin - didn't do anything for me.

14. The drug is in clinical trials now
Contrave is made by Orexigen: http://www.orexigen.com/trials/default.php. It is a combination of Bupropion and Naltrexone, the theory that Naltrexone will reduce cravings and Bupropion will act as a mild stimulant. I am not sure of the dose of Naltrexone, but to reduce cravings it seems it wouldn't be the lower dose. But I am not sure about that. :)

10. Sometimes, it is my impression that some psychoactive meds are used to slow us down
They don't do much good other than to keep us still, so we don't do anything to mess things up.

11. Yes tinkering with your serotonin will screw with your weight. Some days I despair that
I am "balancing" my brain chemistry only to induce depression over the weight gain.

13. I'd rather be heavy than suicidal.

I've gained a bit of weight on my current meds, but I'd probably be dead without them.
