Why was "a Dolly for Sue" on the Island of Misfit Toys?

The number one question that we get asked about the special is: What is wrong with the MISFIT GIRL DOLL? Arthur Rankin answers this question on page five of my book. Apparently, her problem was more psychological than physical.

Yukon Cornelious carried a loaded .45 SAA Colt, just like Fidel.

11. Because she wasn't loved.
Edited on Sat Dec-04-10 11:18 PM by Orrex
Many of the toys on the island are shown with anomalous characteristics, such as the ostrich-riding cowboy and the square-wheeled train, but it is explained to Rudolph et al that each toys is there because a child didn't love it.

Therefore, the Dolly for Sue--one of only two toys with an explicitly identified would-be owner--was clearly not loved by Sue. It's not that the Dolly has an internal defect psychological or otherwise; the problem is that she wasn't loved.

She was, therefore, a misfit.
