This week, we ate at MacDonalds for the first time in this millenium...
Meryl had a Big Mac and I had a Quarter Pounder, and we both had fries and a fountain drink. Cost nearly $14, and it all sucked.
I have no plans to ever eat at a MacD's again...unless I am fooling myself, they used to make at least decent tasting burgers etc...which they no longer do - they were a total waste of money.

FWIW.

2. Mr Gut will go eat fast food, about once a week.
He does it because he is busy, but hungry. He tries the cheapies they have, he loves a deal. I think too, it is something he enjoyed from childhood. However, when he confesses, he says it is never as good as he hoped and he usually doesn't feel so well after. You know, he feels bloated and stuff.

3. You should have just gotten the
99 cent fries and the 99 cent double cheeseburger - they are the best that McDs has to offer

5. We were just talking about that - we got the first area MacD's around 1964,
had 25 cent hamburgers...it was always packed with high school kids, at least those who had cars...I do remember those little burgers were very good.

I might just try one of the modern versions, but that QP was really a letdown...they were pretty good at one time, IIRC...

Edited on Sat Dec-04-10 01:07 PM by Angry Dragon
no more .... too expensive

If I get a hunger for macs I get double cheeseburgers and mac chickens for a buck apiece
also they have dollar fries

edit: as I sit here I think the price was actually 47cents
burgers 25cents
fries 10cents
milkshake 12cents

9. For those who are too young to remember those days, gas was
around 26 cents a gallon, too...

We used to cruise the town in a relatively new Pontiac Bonneville with a big V-8 and spend $5 for gas to fill it up.

12. My major objection is that the food is cold
I don't go to McDonald's that often, but I know the ones that routinely have cold, soggy fries, and avoid them. But EVERY McDonald's in my area serves up cold burgers. You order a Quarter Pounder meal and even if the fries are burn-your-mouth fresh, the burger is room temperature.

And the irony is that a fresh-cooked In 'n' Out Double Double meal...burger, fries, Coke...costs around $6.50, while a Quarter Pounder meal is somewhere around $6.

14. I have a very hard time eating there after my work in western Kansas.
Four counties in western Kansas and eastern Colorado inevitably supply 90% of the beef used in fast food restaurants. The sprawling cattle feed lots, the way we grow corn, supply water and slaughter animals for fast food America is disgusting, unsustainable and should be stopped IMHO. Ater seeing what I saw, smelled, and heard, I now avoid ALL fast food meat as much as I can. You would too if you visited there.

25. I have been through that area, and I have some idea of how MacDonalds
processes their meat - that is one reason I have only eaten there one time in maybe 20 years...FWIW, I would NEVER eat anything from Arby's - I know how their "roast beef" is manufactured.

29. I would encourage anyone to GoogleMap Dodge City, Kansas
And then follow 50 Highway west toward Colorado to get an aerial view of what I am talking about. Just look for the giant rectangles and circles. The rectangles are cattle feed lots. Look close and you can see the cows, millions of them in pens walking and standing in their own waste awaiting death. Look for the huge sewage lagoons. The only thing you are missing is the smell. The smell is so strong it would knock a buzzard off of the proverbial shit wagon. The circles are irrigated crops, GMO corn, soybeans and wheat. Water is pumped out of the depleting Ogalla resevoir. This factory system cannot and should not last. Future generations will curse and spit our convenience oriented ways.

16. When they changed their fries to make them healthier, they ruined them.
MacDonalds used to have the BEST fries and now they totally suck. The southern chicken sandwich is pretty good though for some reason it doesn't fill me up at all (and I have a small appetite).

17. IN-N-OUT is the only fast food restaurant I'll go to.
Not only do they have the best burgers and fries in my opinion, but, they also pay their employees not that bad plus they give them benefits. Here's how they make their fries. Throughout the day you can see them take fresh potatoes and put them in a press which slices them into fries before they cook them. Here's a pic.

20. In-N-Out has some good competition.
I've never been to an In-N-Out - they're not in our area, but I'm a big fan of Five Guys and Smash Burger.

Much better than McDonalds & its ilk.

23. Del Taco & Pollo Loco are my fave chain fast food
Love the veggie works burrito & the fried jalapenos! Any ma & pa taco place will have better fish tacos that the fried fish ones they have here, however, for 2 a.m. after-bar munchies it is unsurpassed!

Cannot stomach Mickey D's or KFC.

I so agree - hamburger fast food is just nasty these days.

I used to love it, but I was young. :-)

24. Last time we went to BK, Whoppers were still pretty good, but IIRC the fries
were artificial...also cost around $18 for two of us - plus a plain small burger for the dog.
We went to 5 Guys after they just started up here, too, but were not very impressed.

There is a local diner - one of those old stainless steel things - that makes great burgers from fresh meat and REAL fries-they cut the potatoes right at the frier. They are almost as good as home made.

30. I avoid it as much as possible
I generally only eat there when I am driving long distances. I usually get the double cheeseburger and I think it's pretty decent. Still, not something any of us should be eating often.
