Elizabeth Edwards and my Dad...
Elizabeth Edwards and my Dad couldn't have been more opposite, but they did have one thing in common.

Both asked not to have any more chemo or other cancer treatmnet, and both went quickly, without a lot of pain or being hooked up to lots of machines.

1. My uncle did the same thing.
I lost my father to cancer, also -- he did the chemo, but cancer was widespread when the finally found it.

I'm sorry for your loss...cancer fucking sucks.

2. So did my BIL
He'd fought his pancreatic cancer for a year and a half and was just worn out. When he was diagnosed, it was Stage IV, inoperable. He had to keep working to keep his health insurance. He worked 4 day weeks, would get his chemo on Fridays so he was recovered enough to go to work on Monday. The weekends he did not get chemo were spent with his family.

Once he decided no more chemo, it was as if he was set free. He and his family went out to dinner that Friday. Saturday, he basically collapsed and my sister took him to the ER where they said there was nothing they could do for him. Hospice workers helped take him home, got him comfortable, and got pain meds for him. Sometime early Monday morning he was gone.

Damn, I hate cancer.
