Oh, my Christ in heaven, I fucking hate rockapella style music. Just fucking hate it. |
|
Accidentally watching that new show Sing Off because the show I was watching on DVR ended.
Not to say that these folks don't have some talent - they have a lot of it. Unlike the American Idol shitstains, they actually sing, and sing without benefit of a battalion of wizards in the editing room punching their voices around with machines and digital processing to make it in tune and give it at least a somewhat human quality.
The dudes on Sing Off clearly know how to sing, and they sing really, really well.
But they sing such fucking shit, I can't stand it. It's so fucking boooooooooooooooooooooooring. My God, seriously, how many groups do we need doing the same goddamn thing over and over and over and over and over?!?!?!?!?!
Didn't this shit already get overdone back in the 80s?!
Much in the way that we only need one Weird Al, one Tiny Tim, and one Wing, we only need one rockapella group.
Such talent going to such waste. The world needs real singers like these folks, but we need them doing real music. They could likely handle doing some Schoenberg, Penderecki, Mozart, Reich, or any host of solid artistic composers.
But they choose boring silliness. Sad.

1. I'm not so sure that Americans could handle anything complicated. |
|
Americans tend to like one or two types of Music and hate anything else unlike most Europeans which will/can accept just about anything or at least try to learn.
I agree with you though...

2. lol - you're so right! |

Americans totally fucking suck when it comes to art.
Yeah, there's a million or so people who actually desire real art and support it and make it happen, but even a million is merely a third of a percent of the population.
Pretty goddamn sad when 0.3% of the population is all there is keeping humanity from devolving.

3. True. But there's also some fairly wretched "classical" music out there. |

For example: Most of John Rutter's stuff. He's the Thomas Kinkade of choral music, but for some reason his music is quite popular. I think it's dreck. I sing in a small early music ensemble and it's so wonderful to be able to perform really great music from the Renaissance and early Baroque eras.
Oops, I spelled "Kinkade" wrong. Guess that shows you how much time I spend thinking about him. :puke:

4. Ugh, Rutter. You're so right. So easy to identify Rutter's music because it's all the fucking same. |

Oh, sure, it's not *really* the same, because the melodies are totally different... but yeah, like Kinkade, he's found a couple of hooks that sell, and hammers those fuckers all the way to the bank.
Boring. As. Hell.
I used to think he was really neato when the requiem was the only thing I knew. Then I started hearing other stuff of his, and realized, "OMG - he's a one trick pony!"

I've always hated all a cappella music; don't need a new pop version. I have never watched Sing Off, nor do I intend to. The commercials annoy me enough.
