I'm noticing A LOT of Banks and Credit Unions are closed on Dec 24th |
|
Now I've always been taught to use credit unions. They are better than banks. So my wife and I have 2 accounts one at one credit union one and a second at another credit union.
Both of these places are closed on the 24th. neither one has bank cards available.
Also my wife's work place is paying them on the 24th. Now this company did away with actual paper checks and you either get your pay check on a "prepaid" card OR automatic deposit.
Maybe it is our own fault for not actually having a REAL bank account but here it is.
Now I remember not 5 years ago Most banks and credit unions would be opened til at least 12 or 1pm on Christmas eve. Not to mention the 24th is a friday leaving people without money.
has anyone find themselves in the same boat or does it seem to be our dumb luck.
But I honestly have to wonder how many people are in this same situation. Other places my wife work they have always paid her either the 22nd or 23rd of December. It has been a while since my pay check has fallen on a holiday but from what I remember they have paid me the day before (on the 23rd.)

1. I think it's more about the # of paid holidays for employees than about you. |
|
Most companies give fully paid holidays for Xmas. Since it's on a Saturday this year, most are substituting Christmas Eve.

The bank employees are getting the 24th off because Christmas falls on a Saturday. Nothing more insidious than that.

2. Common practice for banks, when Christmas Day is on Saturday |
|
Shame about the check, though--it's more the failing of the workplace than the bank.

4. Okay I grant you people that. BUT what about the POOR SAP you can't get his or her money |
|
until the 26th of December due to direct deposit and the place of banking not having ATM cards for the bankers?
My wife and I are lucky that we have one another but my wife knows of a woman with no family is in the same situation where she can't get her paycheck until that following monday. They get paid weekly so she now has to decide pay a bill she normally does OR not pay it just so she has some money for that weekend so she has a couple things to eat and in case of emergency.
It is a messed up situation.

5. It is a problem, obviously. |
|
Maybe they could use paper checks? Odd that their CUs don't issue ATM cards -- mine has been doing that for at least 10 years now.

Thankfully my bank and my employers bank process everything electronically - even on big holidays. I got paid on Thanksgiving and $ was there just like any other Thursday. I can't even imagine living without a debit card.

Pay Day was never changed, even if it was the day after Thanksgiving & all the financial officer had to do was get the bank on the horn & ask them to move it up to Wednesday.
:eyes:
Have you talked to the employer & asked if he could move pay day up to Thursday?

8. Yeah she asked. It is going to be Friday like clock work. The part that's laugh out loud funny |
|
Company she works for claims to be so family friendly they supposely got an aware for it. But when you asked for more details it was one branch of the company in Ohio more than 10 years ago.
The sad part this company insisted on going without paperless checks.
If you didn't have a bank by this time your check was automatically placed on this atm/prepaid card thing. First transaction each week was okay THAN you are charged everytime you used it. So just as long as you take MOST of the money out you are fine. But if you have 15 dollars and 55 cents as a paycheck (Believe me they have sent people home claiming no work and they only got paid 15 dollars for that week.) how do you survive on 10?
