I need to get away from "Kaspersky" anti-virus. Had 2 weird cyber incidents
I'm so low tech, it all looks like up to me. So these young little geek salesgeeks sold me this Kaspersky thing as something really really great.

Haven't really had any problems, just installed the disc, didn't go beyond that to do scans or anything, really just ignored it.

Apparently there is Windows Defender but finally found out how to get to Control Panel to find out whether mulitple anti-virus/spyware programs were on at the same time, and it looks like spyware is ON for both Defender and Kaspersky but couldn't see how to turn Defender off.

Anyway, two incidents a week apart: Usually I don't go beyond Page 1 of a Google Search, but did these two times, and both times, on the 2nd or 3rd page, I apparently hit bad links, because these windows popped up claiming to be Windows Security, claiming to be doing scans and finding hundreds of worms and Trojans. The windows wouldn't Cancel or Close, just kept racing more and more "finds" of crap. Had to Log Off and turned back on.

So I went to Kaspersky and ran their Quick Scan, which reported something like 5 viruses quarantined but couldn't tell whether this was from before, still shows the same thing. The 2nd time I tried doing a full scan, but this stopped after about 10 minutes, incomplete.

So the name should have told me, but when I looked for a tech support 800 #, their headquarters is in MOSCOW!1 They DO have an "Americas" number, but their hours are M-F, working hours only.

So with visions of a Russian cyber-mob I'm looking for down to earth protection. I've used Norton and CA before, mostly Norton, which seemed to be relatable. CA seemed exotic like this Kaspersky thing and I never knew whether it was doing anything or not.

Questions, do I have viruses/Trojans/worms? McAfee or Norton? How do I turn off multiple programs? Thanks for any suggestions. (Windows 7)

1. Try posting in the Computer Help Forum.
Someone there should be able to help you. I am quite a novice with this stuff. Good luck! Here is the link:
