I have no idea what the movie is about.

Sean looks cute in his little red outfit.

1. I saw it when it first came out.
I admit I was more impressed with then young Charlotte Rampling and the other actress to be too critical at that time in my life. Rather than have that warm memory spoiled by a re-viewing, I'll leave it at that.

2. Yup, bad movie, great outfit.
I actually kindof liked it as an example of those strange 60s and 70s movies that failed miserably at being dystopian. But that's a nice chest.

3. I gave up and just watched the movie with sound turned down.
The little red outfit saved the movie for me.

4. Call me weird, but I liked the movie.
I don't consider it bad. Bizarre, certainly, but not as bad as most think. Then again, I've liked all of the few John Boorman movies I've seen :)

5. You Are not Alone
Have you ever seen Boorman's Where The Heart Is. A real mess of a film but beautiful to see.

Hope and Glory
The Emerald Forest
The General

I think he was attempting literate science fiction. The movie may induce giggles for some but I really like it.

On the other hand Exorcist II is available on Netflix also. Now there's a movie he made that is unwatchable. I understand large amounts of cocaine were involved.

11. I Think I've seen "Hope and Glory"
but it was probably a long time ago on either "old AMC" or TCM. I haven't yet watched either "The General" or "The Emerald Forest" though I had wanted to see the latter when it came out.

My all-time favorite Boorman film, though, has to be "Excalibur". The casting in that movie was perfect! I used to have Merlin's incantation memorized at one point ;)

I liked Zardoz for the same reasons. It takes a lot of patience, perseverance, and multiple viewings to understand it. Kind of like watching the original "Solaris".

13. He also directed Deliverance. Word is things were strange on that set, too.
He said this about Mel Gibson. "He seems to think he's Lee Marvin. Except he's two feet shorter. And about one third the talent."

That alone redeems him of any faux pas.

20. I was surprised when I saw he had directed Deliverance.
Another powerful movie :D

That's a great quote, too. Worth remembering for the next Meltdown ;)

10. Its a GREAT movie!......
I really love the early 70's versions of the futuristic dystopia. I'm endlessly fascinated by the way the LOOK. This movie, A Clockwork Orange, Soylent Green, Logan's Run and Robert Altman's Quintet are all classics of this genre.

14. You have to wonder what sane, sober man would don an outfit like that in public
I mean behind closed doors who cares what he wears but that outfit, I'm guessing Connery was tripping on some serious *#%^ to agree to wearing that.

And Borat didn't wear the thigh-high boots

15. Like a few others, I saw this when it came out and LOVED it!
It was just hokey enough to be funny and I loved the idea of a women-owned society! They don't show it very often on tv, but when they do, I consider it a feast, since I've always loved Sean Connery! He's a REAL MAN!!!!! Whew!!!! I'd forgotten about the boots. Okay is it hot in here???

17. But here is what bothers me.
They doll Sean Connery up in what I'm guessing is some futuristic looking outfit but then equip him with some gun that looks like it's out of a bad 1950's western. I think if they had given him some sort of futuristic looking lasergun it might not be so laughable.

And seriously, they should have waxed the chest hair.

21. Except for the fact that the futuristic "society" was almost
a non-materialistic one, and one of peace (other than the infrequent psychic attacks on each other...) So, where would they get the technology for high-tech weapons if they hadn't been invented to begin with? ;)

I always took the existence of the old-style guns to be what was leftover when civilization collapsed, and what would be the most durable for the conditions then. I seriously doubt the group to which Connery belonged were going to be spending a lot of time oiling and cleaning those guns, much less re-manufacturing parts when they broke down. Friend could probably also get them made without anyone noticing, whereas high-tech energy weapons probably require more energy to manufacture and be more of a red flag to the AI of the place :)
