Tell me how this global warming thing works again. It is |
|
December 13th, winter is 8 days away and it is already 10º. The extended forecast shows us below freezing for at least 5 more days. The last several winters have been unusually cold around here, When does the this warming part kick in anyway?

1. Did you check the pilot light? Remember to blow on it before trying to relight it. |
|
There is the potential for gas buildup and if you blow up the world, God's gonna be really pissed off and probably damn you to Heck.

2. Global warming works on a global, long-term scale... |
|
not a local, short term, ten day scale.

3. You don't get uniform warming: you get average warming; meanwhile, changes in |
|
air temperature and moisture content produce changes in cloud cover, in precipitation, and in general circulation. Models for years have indicated that global warming will actually warm some parts of the globe while cooling other parts
And, sadly, the equations governing your weather are exponentially unstable: tiny differences in initial conditions will generally produce entirely different forecasts about two weeks later

4. With increase occurrence of extremes. |
|
The nuance of this is that here in OK, we don't get much snow anymore. We get freezing rain. What a difference a degree or two would make. We've had 4 major devastating ice storms in the past 8 years. I don't recall any of that magnitude in the 30 years prior. Ice yes, but not the storms that wipe out power to half the state for weeks.

5. it may be slowing the gulf stream down also |
|
so if you are in an area that is warmed by it, it may get colder eventually.

6. Global warming contributes to the rising ocean temperatures. |
|
Rising ocean temperatures lead to the disruption of offshore currents. This leads to crazy, unusual and highly unpredictable weather patterns, Cat V hurricanes, increased tornadoes, extremes of temperature in once-mild climates, extreme fluctuations of temperature in dry, tropical, or inland regions, etc.
"Global warming" is a misnomer; it's 'climate change.'
Bill Maher once said: "Saying global warming doesn't exist because it's cold out today is like saying the sun doesn't exist because sometimes it's dark outside."

broke records around the world. Seems the continental usa got colder, snowier weather this past year, but on average the world was a warmer place.
