They aren't the most attractive shoes, but they look damned comfortable.

5. I suggest trying them out before getting them
Putting them on was interesting. My last 2 toes attempted to stay in the same toe hole. I managed to get it right on the 3rd try, after counting toes to make sure the darned things had 5 toe holes, not 6.

I also noticed a drastic difference from what I am used to for insole support from my usual sandals. I may give them another try sometime. I was not sold on the way the toe rubber was attached to the fabric portion.

9. Met a guy hiking wearing a "sport" version of these last fall.
As he put it: "On the upside, I feel more connected to the trail. I can feel the roll of the ground under my feet better, and have better balance. And the downside? This trail has a lot of pointy rocks!"

He went on to say that a hard soled hiking boot allows you to plow through almost any kind of terrain and walk over nearly any kind of surface, but the Vibram's forced to you become more aware of the surfaces you were traversing and that you quickly learned that some should be avoided. He seemed to really like them overall, and I've wanted to try a pair since seeing them. Unfortunately, nobody in my area sells them :(

11. Kayaking/beach shoes
Edited on Wed Dec-15-10 08:13 AM by Dogtown
I wear the "Sprint" model because I have very high arches and the type pictured cause pressure sores.

Great traction on lake bottoms and beaches, but no heel-cushioning for hard-surface walking.

I imagine they'd be ideal for driving, skate-boarding or other pursuits that require traction and tactility but don't need impact-protection.

I have heard of runners and that weird French-urban-obstacle-course stuff using them. The running baffles me.

Excellent for martial arts training.
