resume question- branding

so, working on getting a brand together for myself as a graphic designer. the little guy that is my avatar is my logo. my letterhead consists of his pic, my autograph, and my contact info. the type is a maroon color that matches my little buddy there.
so, should i put my resume on my letterhead, or only use that for a cover letter? can the type on the resume be in the same color? or am i getting to fruefrue?

1. Some "experts" advise no cover letter (an overworked HR person might toss it rather than open it).

2. yeah, my resume needs a little explaining.

i haven't had a "job" in 25 years. so, my resume is not exactly conventional. definitely needs a cover letter.
that's a good idea to contrast the type a little. have to take that for a test drive.

you're not going to get one now w. a cover letter/resume so it's all just wheel spinning -- nobody reads that crap any more, haven't in years

5. Are you looking for a "real job"?

Or are you starting an independent graphic design shop?

I'd summarize the cover letter into two lines and just put it at the top of the resume. Your avatar/logo probably won't mean much - the resume will get scanned into a computer and "optical character reader" digested to plain text.

If you haven't worked in many years, your network and your portfolio of design artifacts will mean more than your resume. I'm just imagining the resume lines:
19xx-1985 - graphic designer
1985-present - nothing, zip, nada.

Anyway, best of luck to you. I am also in the job search mode. It ain't easy.

6. trying to get freelance for the time being

still have 2 more classes to take to get a certificate, so i will be looking for a real job in may. i figure it is never too early to start tho. if i came across a part time thing, that would be perfect.
it's not quite nada for all these years. do have stuff to show that i did as an artist and as an activist. they really aren't teaching me much in school that i don't already know. but a piece of paper helps.

working on the network as hard as i can. hoping to mostly do candidate work, but need something steady to weather the ups and downs of that. so i am open to whatever comes along.

7. I figured you weren't doing "nada"

So yeah, list anything remotely related to job-type-stuff. Even making calls for a candidate or cause shows commitment and reliability.

For "normal" jobs, the LinkedIn site may be useful as a networking tool. For political jobs, I'm not sure.

Republican candidates might be hiring, if you know how to smuggle guns, pick locks, tap phones, run a tanning salon.

8. i can pick locks, and

i am a competent forger. i think i am good. should be no prob.

i did put my political stuff on there, and some non-profit stuff as well. it's not nothing, but i don't think it would convince steven speilberg to hire me or anything.
i am on linkedin, but i suck there. i could work that harder. next thing on my list is a quick iweb site with a half dozen pdf's and some yada yada. taking web3 in feb, so i will do something good there.
holding out hope for something in the municipal election, although that is prolly mostly in the can already. never know, tho.

9. Depends on who you are sending the resume to.

I design under two seperate identities.

One resume is rather conservative for corporate accounts. All the information is provided in a clean, accessible format.

The other one is pretty "out there" when I am pursuing more artsy jobs.

10. really looking for political work, which means they will see

some buttons that i did, and campaigns i have worked on. i don't have anything to offer any buttoned down jobs. i am not desperate yet, so i can afford to look for jobs where a little humor about yourself is appreciated.
thinking about doing a quick mailing to the folks on the chicago ballot. not rahm, but...list is sitting out there waiting for me.
after may, i get cut throat.
