Anyone know why Omaha Steaks charges so much? |
|
Sure, their 'introductory deals' are a bargain, but that's it.
And as far as I know, the stuff isn't even Prime, it's choice!
Seems any beef I find out there that's prime, is at least $30 per steak!

1. Heck, I live in Omaha and don't buy from OS |
|
Only time I really eat steaks is when I'm out at Outback or Texas Roadhouse anyway.

2. because people are just expensing them so it doesn't matter what they cost |
|
the only person i know who still sends them started sending them as a christmas/business gift thing
nobody cares what it costs if the boss is paying

4. Yeah I've gotten those, as well as the Harry And David gifts... |
|
But some folks I know actually swear by OS, and get them monthly.
I mean, fine - they're really good corn-fed choice steaks, but I can go to P&W Super or Costco and get Choice meat

6. My folks sent me one of the introductory offers to Omaha Steaks one Christmas and... |
|
. . . ...while it was... OK... I wouldn't have been able to distinguish it from what I got on a regular basis from my supermarket -- most definitely NOT worth the high cost. . . And they sent me marketing catalogs and offers for YEARS -- despite numerous attempts to get off their mailing list. . . .

7. Every year you can order an 'introductory pack' |
|
Those are a good deal, but anything else is a rip
My last intro pack was $60, free shipping, and included 4 sirloin, 8 hot dogs, 8 burgers, 2 stuffed fish, 4 stuffed potatoes, 4 pork chops and a free knife set!!!

10. The pharmaceutical industry grows them in huge vats of high fructose corn syrup... |
|
... and genetically engineered yeast.
If the pharmaceutical industry gets its way with Congress that's gonna be the only kind of steak you can buy and the cost will soar.
Cattle ranching will be outlawed. Marijuana dealers will start selling real beef as a sideline. Your sketchy neighbor with the grow lights in his basement might keep a cow down there too.

11. because tasteless idjits who think it's impressice to serve Omaha Steaks pay the price. |
|
The things are shit, I found out the time I ordered an introductory pack.
Plus they then called me every two or so days to offer me other things.
Assholes.
Some of the worst beef I'd ever had, and for the price, totally ridiculous.

12. I've bought their steaks before in introductory packs |
|
They're typical choice steaks, pretty much exactly like you could buy at your local grocery or Costco
Nothing prime unless you want to pay $$$$

13. I got one of those intro packs once |
|
Bit into a hard piece of gristle or bone, and ended up with a root canal.
Became a vegetarian in the years since, and yeah, they keep sending me s&*t to try to get me to order more of their gristle-steaks.
I do not like Omaha Steaks.

Honestly, I buy Xmas gifts there every year, and they are well received. I stopped one year, and people got....well...pissed about it.

16. My friend found an introductory pack on his porch one day. |
|
It had been delivered to the wrong address. He called up Omaha Steaks and they told him to just keep them. Now, that was a good deal!
