4. I have one like that on my left ovary; right one has so many cysts it looks like a raspberry |
|
I like to think of them as my third sterilization (the other two are more gothic and involved burning and boiling).
They hurt like fucking hell but as long as the big one doesn't torque, I get to keep them. Yay!
Hope you get to keep your innards, too. Has your doc tried drug therapy to shrink them? There's a couple options that are non-invasive and are low-risk to those with normal kidney function.

without having to get you "spayed." You're a human being, not a cat!

6. I had one the size of a grapefruit. :-( |
|
It had to be taken out, along with the ovary, because it was dangerous.
I was really scared about the surgery, but it wasn't actually that bad. The pain was actually fairly minimal past the first few hours post-recovery, and I was up and walking around easily the first day. The absolute worst part was the loss of digestive function for several days post-anesthesia. It was terribly uncomfortable and anxiety-provoking. You never know how small your life can get until your one and only wish in the entire world for days is to not feel totally sick every time you have more than one bite of food or to just pass a little gas!
It did all eventually pass (pun intended) and after about a month I felt better than I had prior to the surgery and my pants fit a lot better!

8. had one the same size, it went away on its own |
|
i assume it depends on your age, but in my case it was thought the best thing to do was wait & see if it would shrink on its own
hysterectomy is a risk factor for osteoporosis so w. my medical history it was worth trying to see if i could avoid surgical menopause
so far so good...

Actually, I don't know what size it was, only that it hurt like a sumbitch for about a week and a half. Lower back pain, pelvic pain, loss of appetite--the works. It finally went away on its own, and not with a "bang" either, unless it popped while I was asleep. I'm just grateful the fucker's gone.
Hope yours makes a hasty departure too! :hi:
BTW, my OB/GYN is a strong advocate for maintaining a decent vitamin D level for warding off ovarian cysts. Mine was perilously low; now I'm on 5000 IU supplements, and I feel MUCH better. I hardly ever get a cyst anymore--this was the first one in quite a while, maybe a year.

11. I was all set not to be worried about it... |
|
...figuring they are very common and usually resolve themselves. Then a woman in my office told a story of how hers ruptured and she needed emergency surgery and was out of work for 10 weeks!

12. most of them don't rupture |
|
you'll know if it does (severe pain) so don't be brave, get to an ER right away but the overwhelming majority never rupture or we'd have no female population over age 40 at all
try not to stress, these things are very common
i'll be keeping good thoughts/vibes for you
the vit d. story another poster told interests me, abt the time i started to resolve, i had gotten a letter from my health insurer saying it was important to get outside and get some natural d from the sun to reduce breast cancer risk, prior to that, i had gone a few decades ALWAYS wearing sunscreen -- turns out that's a big mistake, you need to get 60 minutes a week of natural sunlight on yr skin
i did it to reduce my breast cancer risk but i wonder now if it's one of the reasons i've been doing well on the bone density scans and also, as i mentioned, the cyst, has shrunk to no problem...
it was a freaking golf ball (and why is it always compared to a tennis ball? golf ball? basketball... the friend w. a basketball had to get a hysterectomy and has never really been the same)
try the vit d. i figure it can't hurt
and don't worry, it won't rupture and kill you w/out warning...you'll know, you'll get to a doc, and it'll be fixed and it probably won't rupture ANYWAY...
