Anyone here own a Nintendo Wii?
I'm thinking about buying one tomorrow night. Walmart (yeah, yeah, evil and all that) is having a sale on them after 9 pm and they're giving away a $75 gift card with it (that can be used to pay for the Wii). $125 for a Wii (I'm getting the red one with the free Super Mario Bros. Game), how can you lose?

I'm trying to decide what game(s) to get. I just looked up the new Donkey Kong Country game and that looks pretty close to the SNES version. I was also thinking about getting Super Mario All-Stars 25 year anniversary pack.

What games do you own and that you would recommend?

1. We have one...
We got the exercise one and some other games. I also have the Monopoly game. I haven't played it yet. TrogL has as well as his son they deem to love it.

2. My son has one. I love it for two main reasons.
1. The Guitar Hero franchise. Those games are just loads of fun.

2. WiiPoints that let you download old-school NES, Sega, and SNES games. I've downloaded Shining in the Darkness, the original Harvest Moon, Super Mario World, the original SimCity, Earthworm Jim, Super Mario All-Stars, and an SNES casino game that Rhythm used to love called Vegas Stakes. Those games are all stored on the Wii's internal memory, so no need for physical discs. :)

Hi,
It depends on what kinds of games you, or whoever will be playing like and how many people will be playing. If multiple people playing at once the Wii Sports and Wii Play ones are fun for both adults and kids. You will need to buy extra controllers.

I'm an adult gamer that likes more strategic games. Best video game series ever are the Zelda ones. There is a Zelda game for the GameCube that you can play on the Wii I believe, and there is a new Zelda game coming for the Wii sometime soon. Mario Galaxy is fun and uses the Wii remote capabilities in interesting ways I think there are two player options for this. Metroid Prime 3 is kind of like a first person shooter, but with strategy involved. I have not played the current one, but played the one for Gamecube and it was set in a very open and expansive environment and was fun fun. The Lego Indian Jones one I had a blast with. I have some exercise ones, but got bored with those pretty quickly.

Always good to go to used game stores for games that have been out for awhile, can get them a lot cheaper and I know the ones here will give you store credit when you return ones you no longer play.

Also, I would strongly encourage you to buy a battery recharger and rechargeable batteries. A bit more off the start, but pays for itself within a few charges.

Have fun and good luck at Wallyworld.

On edit, if you have Netflix, can watch whatever they have instant watch with it.

Peace

4. Just got one last week
Won it in a company raffle we have around the holidays every year. I haven't got any extra games for it yet, it came with Sports and Sports Resort. All I can tell you is it's a blast. I can't stop playing golf, my wife can't stop bowling and my daughter can't stop creating new chatacters. :)

5. I use it for Netflix watching
Edited on Fri Dec-17-10 01:41 PM by Rambis
I had surgery last year and was layed up for a month. I could load movies from ITOUCH to a roku box instant watch (great investment) now we can do netflix through the wii machine. If I didn't watch the premiere league we could get rid of satellite.

8. Do NOT get the Fit
seriously - waste of money. I'm about to list my FIT on Craig's List.

On paper it seems like a great idea but the thing is too focus on keeping balance which annoys those of us who lack balance but just want to lose weight. Yes I am a klutz who trips alot but I have 60 fricking pounds to lose and I don't want to be annoyed with trying to balance on that damn thing.

If you want to buy some great workout tapes there are plenty out there that do not require the FIT. Get those instead. I'm using the Just Dance series which is fun :D

18. Re FIT: The balance board died/broke on ours.
It's pretty worthless without it, so it just sits there collecting dust.

9. I just looked it up and I guess that sale is everywhere at Walmart
If you don’t have a PS3 or a Wii yet then this may be the perfect opportunity to pick one up. Apparently Walmart is having a crazy sale this Friday evening by offer $100 incentive to pick up a 160GB PS3.

According to Gaming Bits, Walmart will be offering a $100 gift card on a purchase of a 160GB PS3. The retailer will also be offering a $75 gift card on a purchase of a Wii. With these incentives the net price of the systems would be $199 for the PS3 and $125 for the Wii.

The deals will start on Friday 17th, at 9pm in the evening via online and in-store until Sunday 19th or until supplies last. If you want to take advantage of the deal then you may want to act quickly as they will go fast.

14. I would assume they'd have plenty of them.
We got a shitload of Wiis in last week. I'm guessing this is why.

13. Mario Kart, but don't get the wheel. The wheel is significantly harder to use than the regular Wii
controllers.

The Wii has wireless internet capabilities, and you can download a lot of the old classics, like The Legend of Zelda. Check out their virtual store.

20. I got mine about a week ago
when they were offering the 50$ gift card(Dammit!).

Fwiw, they didn't let me put that 50$ card towards the Wii, I had to pay for it, then I got the card which in turn I used for DK Country Returns, I also got a little more off with my discount card.

I got the white one, my wife(whom the Wii is for) doesn't like Mario, but loves DK.
