First of All. I just sent a Christmas gift to someone and I feel kind of bad about it.
Before You say, "Wait? What?"
Let me explain.
I got really....really back-stabbed by a couple who were supposed to be mutual friends during a spousal breakup.
However. They...or actually "she," has not to the best of my knowledge ever found out that "I know what you did."
So I send little trinkets. Nothing ever expensive. But something very thoughtful. To show that I was paying attention to the things they cared about. In those times where I thought we were friends.
I've NEVER EVER received even a card or call or email in response.
But I will send these year after year.
A very famous book states that a kindness to an enemy is like heaping coals of fire on their heads.
And
so help me....
It's the most fun I have for about $10 or less...ALL YEAR!!!!!!
But, OK
Is this Wrong?

1. Nah, it's giving you pleasure, making a statement and who knows |
|
it might slowly eat away at them until one day the police are called to find them slowly twisting in the wind above a pile of lovely tchotchkis with the note "We cannot bear our evilness another day!" perched jauntily atop.
What's not to love?

5. No, it's not wrong. It's actually a very good thing. |

As long as you are enjoying the tiny 'evil glee' of the coal-heaping PRIVATELY, you are harming no one.
And as long as the recipient of your gifts remains alive, there exists the chance that they might change their ways. People don't change their ways often, but it DOES happen sometimes. And when it happens, it's often the SMALLEST things that suddenly loom large in their field of vision.
Maybe someday she'll realize that her entire world is a huge stinking pile of snarky hate, and your regular deliveries of thoughtful trinkets will be the 'trail of breadcrumbs' that she follows back to the LIGHT Side.
Probably not, but MAYBE. Stranger things have happened.

6. A gift should be a gift. |
|
I think it’s great that you’re the type who notices little things and gives gifts that are meaningful and show you care. Also, I’m sorry you got back-stabbed in the midst of friends breaking up. Break-ups can be so hard and all kinds of things happen that people regret. But first, if it bothers you that you don’t get a card back, you shouldn’t be sending gifts, and if it’s elating to you that your gifts may equal heaps of coal, you shouldn’t be sending gifts. I really think a gift should be a gift, made in generosity, and not in expectation of anything, not thanks, not reciprocation, not to burn someone, simply to give. So yes, I think you’re wrong.
It’s a minor offense, and it’s only my opinion.
I hope it all works out in the end.

I was scared of offending you, 'cause I like you. I really appreciate that.

11. It's the thought that counts. |

And what I'm thinking would get this thread locked in a vatican minute.
