3. I proposd that DU get an IRC chatroom about 6-7 years ago

The problem is that it would be a cluterfuck to keep it civilized. Message boards are easier to moderate since they aren't in real time and DU has an exceptional and fair system for moderating the boards. I was an operator on a reasonably well frequented IRC channel for a while and the operators (including myself) were all power hungry jerks who needed to get a more constructive hobby.

Yes, I remember chatting by telnetting in on an old Apple SE. I still have Mirc, but don't use it much. I too think it would be fun to have a DU irc channel. It is chatting at it's most basic without all the other bullshit that goes along with all the other messenger stuff today.
