Xmas cheer for those who celebrate Xmas (or just a pretty song for those who don't.)
I thought this was kind of cool - the song we know in English as "Carol of the Bells" sung in its original Ukranian. Apparently the original version was a New Year's celebration song rather than an Xmas song. It was about a swallow that sang to a farmer and his family, wishing them abundance and all good things for the new year.

In that vein, I wish DU'ers abundance and all good things in this coming year. I hope this link will work okay. I'm not computer savvy at all.

4. Love this
They do a marvelous job with it. It's funny to hear it sung in the original language.

I'm partial to this song myself because I directed a choir at an all girls school for a year when I was in college and this is one of the songs we did for xmas. It was a beautiful arrangement for all girl voices and a very special time in my life.

We also did "Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabelle" in the original French (Un flambeau, Jeannette, Isabelle) - had I known the origin of this one, I'd have made the effort to learn the language.

:)

6. Oh, a choir director! :) I really like you! I was in a choir in Junior High school...
I really did not have a very good voice, it was far too soft, but I could hit notes above high C and had the ability to follow along with the music and learn, so I was accepted into the concert choir.

We had an incredible choir director - Mr. Saksa. What a talented, hard-working man! It was a joy to be in the choir under his direction. Our school won the state competition in our size class (largest) for Montana. Not because of us - I'm sure we were no more talented or able than any other singers in the state - but because of Mr. Saksa.

We sang this as one of our Christmas concert songs. I loved this song so much! It was such a joy to sing and I felt so proud of our choir when we sang it.

When I listen to this beautiful song done so well, I remember those days when I enjoyed singing in the choir. Such good memories!
