Funny story for those who've read "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" (spoilers) |
|
I just got finished with it and realized who I had pictured Dolores Umbridge (the hateful, nasty, spiteful and vindictive Ministry of Magic stooge who temporarily took over Hogwarts) as:
Sarah Palin!!
Some other thoughts:
-Sad about the end of Sirius Black, IMO the best character of the series.
-I don't care that Harry's Dad and his friends picked on Snape; he deserved it. Snape is still a mean bastard whose only credit is he at least does his duty occasionally.
-Fred and George's departure by broom was one of the best parts of the book.
-Why is Malfoy still at Hogwarts when his father is a confirmed Death Eater and Malfoy has expressed loyalty to Voldemort?? (if the answer is revealed in the next 2 books please don't answer; hope to work my way through them by New Year's).
-Fuck the centaurs. And the spiders, for that matter.

Just started reading "Half Blood Prince" - can't wait to see what happens in this and the next.
It's funny; I used to deride HP as being beneath adult reading (I'm one of those annoying literate snobs) - then I gave it a chance, and got instantly hooked at the ripe old age of 39. Just goes to show you can never, ever judge something without having immersed yourself in it and seen it for yourself.

3. In the movie however, she looks rather like Laura Bush. |

Snape may be a bastard, but he didn't do anything to James and pals. Sorry, Harry's dad is a jerk. But that's the beauty of HP - by the end of the series, there are very few black-and-white morally unambiguous characters. It's really a very complex moral tale for a "children's series."
