Positive DU vibes for my sis and her kids...car accident tonight |
|
They were on their way to see a movie and some lady hit them hard..SUV is totaled but airbags inflated, thank goodness! They are in the ER right now. Nephews are OK but my sis' knees are bruised and swollen as is part of her jaw, niece is getting a CT of her abdomen because she is having abdominal pain, and her boyfriend's head and neck are hurting. I live in another state so my updates are from texts and calls right now.
:( :(

1. I feel for you. Being too far away makes it harder. |

Hopefully everyone will be ok, but that abdominal pain is scary. Best wishes and sending vibes for a good outcome.

And they are in a small community hospital that may not be taking some of my 10 yr old nephew's symptoms seriously. He is having an ongoing headache but they told my sis that the ER didn't want to do a cat scan on him "because it would expose him to radiation". To me, finding out he may have a bleed or swelling outweighs the one time exposure to anything from a CT or MRI.
So I just got off the phone with her after giving her the verbage to use (I'm a nurse and the only one in the family to help them decipher what is going on). Including "potential for bleeding on the brain, especially a slow bleed" that may get worse after they leave the hospital and for her to get names/titles of those workers if they still refuse to do one...and "adminstrator on call" if they really don't do what she is asking. He was not in a seat belt and the car that hit them was going 50 mph so there is no telling what he may have banged it to or how he was tossed about.
Sis has bruised/swollen knees because she keeps her car seat close to the steering wheel and they hit the dash. Niece is awaiting CT results but they have to send the CT to be read into Tulsa and that Tulsa hospital is "backed up" so they are gonna be there a while waiting for all of their test results.
I just wish I was up there because my family is not savvy with what words to use when it comes to hospitals and may get easily convinced to leave without the proper tests.

9. Omigosh, ER doesn't want to do a CT scan??? |
|
What in the world??
Positive vibes, I can understand your concern. Any person with possible head trauma requires CT or MRI, my goodness. A 10-year-old?? Fer cryin out loud.
Best wishes to your family. Let us know what happens. I'll be thinking of them.

for those you love. They're lucky to have you. To be able to offer aid even from a distance is very helpful.

14. Update: First, thank you all for your thoughts/vibes! |
|
Summary of injuries: 10 yr old nephew had a concussion...he had to be taken to a second hospital TODAY because he was still having headaches and started throwing up. THIS hospital did an MRI (whereas initial hospital refused to do ANY tests on him right after the crash). The MRI showed he had no bleeding but he did suffer a concussion.
Niece: Initial hospital found "a dark spot on her liver" when they did a CT of her abdomen. 2nd hospital sis took her to for a 2nd opinion said they didn't see any damage, that she will just be really sore for a while. The initial hospital had told my family to take her home and bring her back "if she passes out at home". 2nd hospital's response to THAT: "had you waited til she passed out at home, chances are she would have died before she got back to the hospital"
Sis: will most likely have her knee tapped to get out the blood/fluid behind her knee because it is still hurting her
Niece's boyfriend: Has facial fractures that will require surgery.
The initial hospital is a place that has no business being IN business..they only ended up there because it was the nearest community hospital in their small town and that is where the ambulance took them post-car wreck.
Thank you all again for your positive thoughts/vibes!
