I remember 1985, 86, 87 and 1988 like the back of my hand

I had just awakened.

Not to some spiritual truth or the face of god, but awakened to my possibilities as a human.

I could change my mood with drugs.

I could change my outlook with drugs.

I could have sex or masturbate, and the same result would occur.

I could beg for cash and get some.

I could donate some cash and get none.

I was my own destiny.

It was a great thing to be alive...
