I have no real materialistic wants but I have a $30 gift card from Target
what should I get?

I could use a gift card for a veterinary catalog or even Safeway (hell - walmart, I could get a few groceries there)

But Target? Can you tell the relative that sent it knows me well?

3. no, that is the problem
nearest Target is in Tucson and with the vehicle problems lately I'm not risking a trip that far

was going to look on line but my dial up is slow for their site - geez I'm not even good enough to Target!

30. I wondered.
You know, I just never go down there. Husband was raised in Tucson and I lived there a couple years so it is the "city" we head to when forced to do "city" plus once off here we are on 10, so...

Yougest is down that way almost every day working but doesn't really have time for shopping, although sometimes I make him go to the bank for me}(

How are you doing? we have been fixing busted pipes for three days! it sure got cold!

2. Get a salad shooter, but don't ty to take it on an airplane.
No shit. That's one of the items that TSA confiscated last year.

But hey, nothing beats dancing naked with a salad shooter.

8. Well...
the ones here if you head far enough out west of DC into rural VA sell shotgun shells (but not shotguns ), outdoor gear, rope and other stuff that would probably be of use to a rancher. Alternately, get yourself something nice you'd never buy with your own money...that's my gift card rule, I won't buy anything practical or necessary with them. They're gifts for enjoyment.

I dunno, the only things I buy at Target are:

*Boca Chik'n patties because they're about $1.25 cheaper than the grocery per box. (~$3 versus $4.29)

*A 25# dumbbell for weight-aerobics because it was the only place I could find that sold one that heavy. The clerk at Modell's kept trying to talk me into a 10# until I picked 4 of them up with one hand...I need big weight, I was an OT in HS and college, I might be 31 but I'm not that out of shape.

*Anything I have any suspicion that the Albanians are going to ruin. (ie. cereal bowls)

9. do they have garden sections?
maybe some pots or plants would be ok

I haven't been in one in ages - just not my kind of store, really. I think the last time was looking for a cheap chair for one of the kid's room.

10. Usually.
Not plants though, just tools and decorative planters and the such. Cut-flower vases.

16. They have some nice garden stuff.
That includes cheap chairs. How about a bird feeder? They have some rather nice hummingbird feeders. Or a weather station? I like Target better than the other discount stores, because their products seem to be more contemporary than what the others have, especially since K-Mart stopped carrying the Martha Stewart line.

12. Just sell it on Ebay - you can probably get $25 for it.
Or there are some websites where you can trade it, like plasticjungle.com will give you a $28.98 Amazon gift card in exchange for your $30 Target gc. Surely there's something you can find at Amazon.

I'm sure that the local Toys for Tots type program would appreciate it. Or buy food and give it to the food bank.

Even the non-materialists among us brush their teeth, blow their noses, and wipe their bums. Ditto for dishsoap and laundry detergent.

20. Most of that though you can get for free with coupons.
I wouldn't blow $30 on that.

I'd use a website to trade it, or call and see if you can use it to buy a visa gift card (make sure there's no activation fee for it though).

22. Or combine some of the ideas above
Coupons plus the card could be turned into a significant amount of things which could be given to people who do have material needs.

24. The ONE thing I go to Target, and Target only, for...
...is greeting cards. Mainly because they have those humorous political ones. So, for example, for a conservative friend's birthday I can send a card that looks like it's from President Obama, with his photo on the front.

Or a card that mocks Sarah Palin or Michelle Bachmann or some other wingnut. Those are all-purpose, good for both your liberal friends and your conservative friends.

And one nice thing about my local Target is the aroma of popcorn that hits me when I walk in the door. It reminds me of the five-and-dime stores of my youth...

25. They have DVDs and computer games.
Probably not great ones... but you could probably pick up one or two.

Pretty sure they have toilet paper too if you can't find anything better. And as my dear grandpa always said "You can never have too much toilet paper."

and I decided to send it on to a friend who can use it more and easier than me.

If I ever find myself in a Target again I will check out the gift card section for sure, and always like garden sections too.
