If Natalie Portman doesn't win the Oscar this year then someone really messed up! |
|
I just watched Black Swan on Sunday - talk about an intense movie.
I see where Mila Kunis got picked for best supporting actress with the golden globes but honestly - Barbara Hershey deserved it way more! No wonder Natalie's character was so messed up - you would be too with a mom like the one Barbara Hershey played.
And seriously can we see more of Vincent Cassel here in the USA!

2. I thought it was very much (spoiler) |
|
a modern, thriller version of Swan Lake. When Portman and Kunis are at the bar and Portman explains to the guy what Swan Lake was about, she was describing everything going on in the movie.

3. It was predictable but you watched because the acting was so amazing |
|
and you still wanted to see what happens yet. Portman just really drew you into the movie and I doubt any American Actor could have done even half the job that Vincent Cassel did for that movie. There was a bit of creepiness with Cassel that only a European could have pulled off but an American would have not done half as well.
But Barbara Hershey just owned that role. She was so fricking creepy she made Joan Crawford and Norman Bate's mothers seem actually sane. Could you imagine having to share a home with that woman especially when you're in your 20s and probably have the income to find your own place. She was the absolute worst of stage mothers ever but Hershey really sank her teeth into that part.

That phrase has a real chance of being remembered for a long time for its creepiness.

I'm actually hoping that Jennifer Lawrence gets the Oscar for Winter's Bone. No question that Portman did a great job and obviously put her body through a lot of rigor to maintain the role of a prima ballerina, and I definitely enjoyed the movie. But I tend to prefer acting that's not so showy, most of the time, and Jennifer Lawrence had it in Winter's Bone. It wasn't even acting, imho; she *was* that character. And that's the best kind of acting there is.

11. Put me down for J Lawrence, too. |
|
I'd also like to see John Hawkes get some recognition from that same movie. He was even better.

13. I saw both and thought Portman's performance was stronger... |
|
Also found Winter's Bone weak, especially compared to the book.
