For those interested in the saga of Tobin |
|
A few days ago I wrote about a dilemma that I was having regarding work and my girlfriend.
Long story short:
I own a semi and I'm away from home a lot working for the company that I currently have it leased to. It's killing me to be gone all the time because I have someone back home that I'd like to spend more time with. My options are to sell the truck or find another company to lease it to where I can get home a lot.
I've been having a hard time finding another company to lease to that has the deal I want and I was leaning toward selling my truck despite the fact that I really like owning a truck. A couple of days ago, not long after I talked to you guys about this, I ran across an ad for a carrier who is leasing trucks to work in a 250 miles radius of Columbus, Ohio. I live in Dayton, Ohio which is about 75 miles from Columbus. I would be home 2 or 3 nights a week with the weekends off. I wanted to be home every night, but this new deal would be a big improvement and I'd still get to keep my truck.
The company is well respected in the industry. I won't get rich there, but I should be able to pay the bills and put something back in savings and my retirement account. If by chance you think you might know which company I'm talking about I'd appreciate it if you didn't post it.
I filled out an application and yesterday a recruiter called me and said he was interested. I just sent in the releases for them to check my work history, criminal record, and motor vehicle report. After today it might be a done deal and I will give my two weeks notice.

Home at least most nights,a livable income etc....Best of luck to you with this. (Only disappointment is a selfish one; you won't be passing through Albuquerque)

You'll not have to give up your dream of being and O/O and you'll still have time with your lady.
Continued success Tobin.

5. Once again, showing me how intuitively smart and resourceful you are. |
|
. . . . . I've been reluctant to post on your dilemma as I'm torn between both your worlds. I know how much you want to be at home, but I also know how much your career meant/means to you as part of finding your happiness -- maybe keeping your happiness, too. . . . This sounds like a compromise that will let you have both -- and I truly don't think SOME separation is bad... it absolutely CAN make the heart grow fonder -- cause a deeper and longer-lasting appreciation of the time that you do have together. . . . And with cellphones/laptops, you'll have many more connection/togetherness options than used to be available for those whose hearts are separated only be geography. . . . I hope this works out for you... I've been worried about you immediately dropping what you wanted so much and that has seemed to be so good for you personally in so many ways. . . . :yourock: . . .
