This bowl season has been a joke
Call me bowled over, but until last night's Sugar Bowl I had not seen any compelling football in this pile of corporate welfare that college football calls a postseason.

I don't know where I went off the tracks.
Maybe it was that fiasco in the American Mortgage Music City Bowl when North Carolina, target of NCAA investigations on agents and academics all season, actually got rewarded for having too many players on the field on the final play of regulation, an official's ruling giving it a chance to kick a tying field goal.
Maybe it was seeing TCU finish unbeaten with nowhere to go but home.

1. The Sugar Bowl sucked green shetland pony wang
Boise State would have carved up either Arkansas or Ohio State like a turkey at a Manson Family Thanksgiving. The ridiculous NCAA sanctions against Ohio State were a very bad joke, as well. I don't know if the Buckeye players deserved their punishment, but once the NCAA decided to punish them, they shouldn't have let them play in the big bowl game. See, that's why it's called "punishment," because you lose a privilege. The scrubinis will sit out or transfer, and the star players will just opt for early entry into the NFL.

Terrelle Pryor would have been intercepted about six times against a team with a defensive secondary. Take your pick from Boise State or any of the top six Pac 10 teams. Lucky for Ohio State, it was playing Arkansas, which couldn't corral a loose ball or an errant pass if they had 10 minutes and the entire stadium to themselves. Then, when they finally did make a play to put themselves in position to win the game, they handed the ball right back to Ohio State. Pathetic. And this was supposed to be a showcase game for college football? Sheesh.

We can only hope the Oregon-Auburn game is better, but if Arkansas is supposed to be the second best team the SEC has to offer, I'm not sanguine.

3. there are simply an absurd number of "Bowls"
and their meaning is diminished. Didn't it used to be that the team with the best record was the champion? Seems a bit unfair to drag it out simply to make ad money...

4. Here's my idea for a new Bowl game I'd actually watch...
... The Toilet Bowl, pitting Division I's bottom two teams against one another. One will be Duke, the other one is TBD.
