Cat won't leave me alone
One of our cats--a little 6-pound, 15-year-old lady--has in the last couple of days decided she can't live without me for even a second. If I'm sitting, she's in my lap; if I'm sleeping, she's next to my pillow touching my face; she follows me into the bathroom. She's always purring and nudging. I love an affectionate cat as much as the next person, but she really is beginning to make me nuts and this is not typical of her. She's ignoring the other two humans in the household.

1. Awww...
My sweet girl, Muffin, was always a lap kitty, but became even more so in her old age. She was always near me - but a few months before we lost her she would wake me up SEVERAL times a night to snuggle up next to my face. I would put my arms around her and hold her, she would sleep for about a hour or two, then get up and walk around my head, and then 'paw' at my head to get BACK under the covers to be held again. She did this every night for months. I decided to let her do this to her heart's content - mostly because I knew how much I would miss it after she was gone.

I would give everything to have her wake me up again for 'snuggles'.

2. My old cat is like that. Only I was nuts before I got the cat. The
other thing he does is at 6 a.m. he starts meowing loudly near my head, until I get up. About one hour straight, without stop of trying to get me up.
He is about 23 or so and I know this won't last forever. And I also know that I am in no hurry to see him gone.

3. What is her name?
It can be annoying. At 15 she could be slowing down and needing a little extra comfort. I just hope for you that she tries to get a little from the others in the household. :)

5. Her name's Wilma
Because she's a redhead like Wilma Flintstone. And she's snuggled up to my laptop right now. With all this clinginess going on, I'm just hoping she's feeling okay.

4. I'd rather have a sweet kitty all up in my grill than
a 100 pound Akita. He takes spells like this after I'm away from home a few days. I keep telling him I ain't goin' nowhere, but he just wants to make sure.

6. My geezer cat is like that, too.
The past few days, he has started to DEMAND his morning lap-sit. He won't even wait for me to have some breakfast. Heck, he won't even eat his own breakfast before he gets that lap-sit. And then, I have to put treats in with it to get him to eat. Poor, old guy. I tolerate it, because I know he's not going to be around a whole lot longer, thanks to kidney disease.

7. my Kali is the same
she's in her 21st year now. she grew up with my wee daughter who is now 23. she followed her everywhere almost like she was her nanny. slept on her bed, groomed her hair. met her at the bus stop. and now days, she can no longer groom herself, forgets she's just eaten. wakes me in the middle of the night. this behavior is now 2 years long, and I understand how nuts it can make you feel. I continue to indulge her as she has earned it. also I am nearing the geezer days myself, so I'm doing the "do unto others" bit, hopefully building up some sweet karma.

9. Dogs have a master, cats have a staff.
I'm sure when she's through with you, she'll fire you.

10. My old cat has been doing that a lot, too.
I have been humoring her. She is around fourteen. Who knows how much longer she will be with us?

15. and is hers ok?
Edited on Mon Jan-10-11 01:52 AM by GoddessOfGuinness
A few of the kitties I've had became very affectionate when their end was near. It was like they wanted to let me know it would be ok...

13. Two words: Cat toss!
When my smallest cat gets like this, I make it a point to give it a good-natured launch out of my bedroom. He gets the hint. :)

14. My little old girl started acting like that.
She died a couple of weeks later, hyperthyroid-related kidney failure (I think).

If you haven't, take her to the vet and get her checked out. I waited too long with my little girl.
