A tech question...
is there anyway to get around an ip ban? I'm computer illiterate and have no clue. Also, if your ip address is banned and you have more than one id at a site would you be able to log in using one of the id's that aren't banned?

I was banned from a site--don't know why--I really didn't break any of the TOS...usually when you're banned from this site you can sign up again using a different email address. I tried but it wouldn't let me, this is why I'm thinking my ip address was banned. Can't register using any of my computers.

The other id I logged in using was actually my daughters--as she's also a member--but hasn't posted in a very long time. Plus a friend let me log in using her id...no problem.

Does this sound like an IP address banning? and if so is there anyway to get around it?

I like going to the site and arguing with the righties.

Thanks in advance.

1. Route through a proxy, or get another IP.
You might *also* want to clear your cookies, a ban cookie may be hidden in there.

4. LOL!....
Gotta love it that the Iggles got sent home. Would have killed me for them to be in the super bowl in our house!

The site I was banned from, isn't well liked around here. It's actually my second time being banned. As far as I know I'm the first one who's ip was banned.

I enjoy cyber slapping righties...

7. Heh! A Cowboys fan!
In Dela-where, no less!! A life long Cowboys fan, here. I've seen all EIGHT Super Bowl appearances!

The best victory was against the squeelers for our last one!

5. If the IP is banned
then yes, you have to change it or go though a proxy.

6. That's what I thought...
I googled the proxy idea, and I'm not sure I understand. Do I need to buy/download something? From what I've read there is no way to change your ip.

8. There are free proxys available
The only thing a proxy server does is stand in the way of incoming traffic. An example I can give of is a messenger. The proxy relays traffic between the client (you) and the server (the web site), just as a messenger relays inform, ation between two people. The reason a proxy works is because the website in question sees the proxy's IP address, not yours, so it doesn't know that it is you on the website. The only thing the server sees is the proxy server. That's why some security policies at some companies forbid the use of private proxy servers because people use them to get onto Facebook or other sites in order to circumvent the firewall rules.

9. Thank you for explaining that....
I'm very dense when it comes to technical things. Except for the TV for some reason I can usually fix it when it screws up.

I don't even load my own ipod, my son does it for me. He's afraid to let me try. LOL!
