I found this uncredited and uncaptioned picture online and it looks like...
.

.
.
...the Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch north of Tucson (I used to live right
next door in the shadow of Picacho Peak). It has nothing to do with John
Wayne -- the rancher's name is Cogburn and, well... you know.
.
.
.
.
The cups look familiar -- you could feed the ostrich(es?) or there were tame
and gentle little deer to feed on the other side. The ostrich would PECK the
feed out of your outstretched palm -- and their beaks felt like the edges of
vinyl albums and they pecked HARD.
.
.
.
Within a coupla minutes, I was over with the little children... feeding those
gentle deer.

5. ???

It's Arizona. It's the Sonoran Desert. It's pretty damned stupid NOT to wear
sunglasses here 12 months a year (says "He Who Never Remembers to Bring His").

.
.
Sun's bright enough to be a hazard to drivers -- ESPECIALLY during early AND late
rush-hours when the sun is directly in your eyes and you try to look between your
fingers (BTDT) -- and a hazard to anyone with unprotected eyes and skin. You should
SEE some of the scuba mask-sized sunglasses some people wear out here for protection.

3. it's cute but photoshopped
I volunteered a summer at the North Ga. rescue. Got to know my ostriches and emus rather well.
The biggest threat comes not from the beaks but the talons. An angry one can rip your belly wide open.

4. Maybe... I do know that Rooster was very specific in telling us HOW to feed them...
.
.
.
.
.
...with the feed in the PALM of our upturned hand so they had to peck down
relatively carefully. This guy MAY have held a piece between finger and
thumb and the ostrich just went for it full-force. Like I said in the OP,
they went for it fast and HARD and even when I held my hand properly, it
felt pretty bruised up very quickly.
.
I have no doubt the talons are much more deadly, but that doesn't NECESSARILY
mean the beaks can't be painful/frightening.

6. Back in my animal rehab days I got to ride on the keepers' truck at the NC zoo.
Mind you, this was the beginning of the open environment days, and that zoo was just spectacular. But everybody there of the critter persuasion knew that truck meant breakfast, and I was told in no undertain terms to WATCH OUT FOR THE OSTRICHES!! They'd come running like mad and we had to toss feed and take off, or the guys swore they'd climb in and try to take your face off, half ornery and half just hungry.

Good times.
