"Alabamy Bound"...Les was one of my early inspirations, and one of the best guitarists of the pre-rock n roll era...also an extremely prolific inventor ;

Great guitar, and all the music in the background is Les overdubbing himself, something he invented, too...He played live till age 94, his last club gig a few weeks before he died.
Link: and another Les Paul program, from a few years ago, Chasing Sound, about Les's career and some great music.

1. Thanks, Mark. I did enjoy.
They also did a wonderful one called, "How High The Moon".

That one is a lot of fun as well.

They were great together!

Thanks for posting this.

Cheers.

4. Have you seen Jeff Beck's Les Paul tribute?
Edited on Mon Jan-10-11 09:40 PM by Kat45
It's been on PBS quite a bit. Imelda May sings a number of the songs, and Brian Setzer and Trombone Shorty are also involved in that show. He's doing a Les Paul Tribute tour and I have tickets for the show here in March, which I'm looking forward to. I also got the CD of the PBS show when I made a PBS donation during the pledge show, but I haven't had a chance to play it yet.

8. I read that he had a mic set up in the kitchen
so that when he was recording in the basement, Mary could add vocals as she did the dishes. I'm not sure if that's true. She overdubbed all of the vocal parts on their recordings too, though.

9. Thanks. That was great ! Believe it or not, my dad turned me on to him.

My father had quite a record collection (those 1/4 inch thick wax records that were quite brittle) of Benny Goodman, Gene Krupa, etc... And mixed in were several Les Paul, Mary Ford songs. How could a young man growing up on rock and roll not appreciate Les Paul's guitar virtuosity?
