For post #1000 (whew!) - A big Thanks to all you Lounge Lizards
Like many of you, I came to DU in the dog days of late 2001, despondent at seeing my America seeping into the sewer of bushCorp. More than anything, I needed to sense and feel that other people of conscience shared my angst, which had become almost suicidal. GD was a good start, but it was only after stumbling into the Lounge a year or two later that I regained my smile, constantly reminded that there is compassionate life beyond political struggle. I sincerely thank all of you for helping to make me and other DUer's more humane humans again.

While staring down terminal cancer, N.C. State basketball coach suggested that EVERY DAY one should seek to laugh, learn something new, and cry. How incredible that I can do all three, every day, just by visiting the Lounge. Sure, the tears are often wrung from resounding DU laughter, but it works for me. Keep up the healing, everyone - there's always a newbie in need.

*The young bund lifeform, before the invention of color film. Does anyone know me?

1. Should we know you?
Anyway, great post. I love the lounge. During the early stages of the primaries I was addicted to GD: 2004 Primary but when Dean dropped I became a lizard.

2. I've always wondered
if any of my old childhood friends/classmates are members of DU. With sharp memories they might remember me from the ancient photo.

3. Sorry didn't go to school with ya
Hope you find some of your friends. Did you think of ever going on that show 'Classmates'?

4. Don't know "Classmates," but I grew up in freeperville
A rarity in suburban Boston, but it was hardcore conservative. I was probably the first in my class to embrace egalitarian, neo-socialist values, around the age of 14 - my parents were appalled.

6. Classmates is a show on now
that lets people catch up with someone special in their past. It's on during the day or late at night.

8. Very prolific, neverborn
I think I lurked for 3 months before my first post.

Now I wonder...is there life after 1000? Judging from all the vets here, there must be, albeit in an altered state.

10. *A late edit addition
Just realized that I spaced out the name of that N.C. State basketball coach - Jim Valvano, who also utterred the now-famous quote: "Don't give up, don't ever give up." If anyone ever embodied the living example of daily laughing, crying, and learning, it was he.
