I've made a huge mistake.
No, this isn't an Arrested Development post.

I bought a bottle of white merlot.

*gag* *retch*

This stuff is just horrible. It's going down the sink.

3. It was for casual consumption.
But, cansumption be done with it?

No.

It makes *this* taste like a Cabernet.

2. Argh
I'm sorry for you.

We are predicted to get 2 whole worthwhile gi-normous inches of snow here in the DC area tonight, so I stocked up today with some nice Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.

What the heck is "White Merlot"??

4. "What the heck is "White Merlot"??"
I think it's an invented, hybrid phrase for "sucker".

Apparently it is made the same way they make Zinfandels and Rosés.

I saw red, in a bottle, with Merlot on the label. I fell for it.

6. I've had some Zinfandels which weren't bad
but "White Merlot" seems like an oxymoron.

"White" -- not bad, usually good.

"Merlot" -- umm, okay, not what I'll choose in France next week (yeah, seriously, I'm gonna be there)

But you have to be a brave soul to manage "White Merlot".

Kudos, you infidel!! LOL :)

9. Red wine gets its color from sitting on the skins
You can make any red wine white by removing it from the skins. Not that you should. Most of the genre is plonk.

7. Oh, I really like the South African SBs
New Zealand after that. They tend to be not so pricey, and I really like them.

But I'm a cheap wino after all. :)

10. And we actually got WHAT, snow-wise?
Don't look like no 2 gi-normous inches of ANYTHING, more like another 'dusting,' imo.
I sipped my white zin, and now my dear friend is in the kitchen, cooking as if we were going to be snowed in! OK with me, smells great!

17. Oh, I know!
We got maybe 1 - 1.5 inches overnight. But you know how it is - folks in this area hear "Winter Storm Warning" and even if it's a warning for 1 inch -- people go nuts and start stocking up like it's gonna be a foot or more being dropped. I lived on a ranch in Wyoming, we'd go to town and seriously stock up for "Winter Storm Warnings" cause it's easy to get snowed in out there, but it's sorta laughable around here.

8. that is why i prefer beer... A can of miller will taste like a can of miller
I used to frequent a little wine bar.
They would have tastings and i could find out which tasted good and which tasted like antifreeze
(or what i imagine antifreeze would taste like)
Eventually they would run out of the number of cases of something that i found drinkable and then i would be force into--what do you have that is sort like xxxxx. Never a good place to be.

11. White Merlot?
I didn't know there was such a thing. Does it come in a box or jug?

14. I got it because Beringer is my go-to, inexpensive, drinkable wine.
Edited on Wed Jan-12-11 01:18 PM by MilesColtrane
This stuff is gagginly, cloyingly sweet.

It tastes sweeter than pure grape juice to me...certainly sweeter than any wine I've ever tried.

It was $12.99 for a 1.5 liter bottle, comparable to Beringer's cab.

16. I like sweet wines.
I'm a frequent drinker of Eiswein myself. It's not a cheap habit, but I love it.

The name "white merlot" just turns me off. It just doesn't seem...right. I think I'll stick with my Rutherford Hill Merlot (either 2002 or 2003) as my go-to merlot.
