Mrs. Venation in hospital -- update # 2
She has been at Georgetown University Hospital since Thursday night (a vast improvement). Several doctors from the GI team have been in to see her, all of whom are completely up to speed on her case. Since it's a teaching hospital, several students have also been in, but Mrs. V. is fine with that.

An endoscopic ultrasound revealed that the pancreas itself is in good shape. Mrs. V. was wise to call 911 immediately as doing so prevented damage to the organ. The EUS also revealed the presence of something, perhaps a stone, in the bile duct. Today (we hope) they're doing an MRCP (magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography) to get a better look. Depending upon what that shows, on Tuesday they will do an ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography). The aim is to find out what that thing is in there and possibly to remove it. There's more to it, which my stressed brain can't pull up at this early hour.

I'm not allowed to stay overnight at Georgetown. This doesn't make me happy, but it's forcing me to take better care of myself. So I can take better care of my beloved.

One other thing that makes her illness and this hospitalization really bad: it looks like Mrs. V. is going to be in the hospital on her birthday. :(

Keep those good thoughts coming. Thanks, DUers, for your continued support.

8. Oh my!
's and best wishes to both of you.

Hospitals are difficult for the patient, but sometimes I think they're as stressful for spouses, maybe more sometimes.

I've been both, the visiting spouse and the patient, and in some ways being the patient is easier.

Yes, take care of yourself and I hope the both of you can have a wonderful birthday party together wherever you are.

10. The vibes haven't stopped coming from here...
.
.
.
...for BOTH of you.
.
.
.
You might have time to get her that stuffed pancreas now.

.
.
.
And, if worse comes to worse -- give us a day-or-two-beforehand heads-up
so we can all wish her a Happy Birthday!!!
.
.
.
And the important thing is that, despite the current hardship, she will
be much better soon and your life can get back to (snicker) "normal".
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
I'm not sure there's too many people in The Lounge that I could apply
that statement to without snickering.

18. well, it's good to know what is actually causing her pain
You would think they would have a chair or somewhere for you to sleep, or a family suite type-thing for a lower cost.

Hang in there! Sounds like she is getting excellent care.

23. Sounds like they will be figuring this all out very soon!
Continuous warm and healing vibes are emitting from my computer coming your direction!!! It sounds like she is in good hands, although I'm sure it is frustrating to have to be patient. Minutes seem like hours, etc. But the medical team has to work slowly so that they figure things out correctly.

Hang in there! I'm glad you are taking care of yourself. You must do that!

My best to you both!!!
