Did Air America go off air?

Just wondering - I downloaded and installed Real Alternative (thanks to the poster that mentioned it, keeping me happily Real Player FREE) and got the end of a commercial - now nothing. Not sure if something's wrong on my end, or if they're not broadcasting.

6. amateur nite

I'm listening to this on Real, and I can not believe how amateurish this
shit sounds. Guys talking in the background, 'is my mike on?" that
kind of shit.
I'm taken aback after listening to what Mike Malloy and Take Back the Media
did on a shoestring, versus this crap. Havent heard O Franken or any of the
others yet, but this is really disappointing.
There's about 3 sound streams going on, one of them the third
iteration of the news...
really disappointing, so far.

9. Streaming seems spotty...

The stream from the Air America site seemed kind of intermittent... my guess is they're struggling to keep the servers humming on Day One, especially when this should be a "peak" day for them.

The stream from the Portland station (and maybe some of the others) has the big gaps where the paid commercials would go... not sure why they don't broadcast over the stream, but I'm just as glad they don't.

I listen to KGO from SF on the net, too, and they don't broadcast commercials. Understandably, SOME of the commercials are local, but many are national. I don't understand why they don't broadcast 'em.

The second time, I could re-start it from RealPlayer. We'll have to give them time - I'm sure they'll get things right. It will be worth waiting for. :hi:

20. Becaue of a dispute...

...over how to pay compensation to the actors and musicians involved, commericals using union talent may not be streamed over the internet, even if they are broadcast.

This accounts for some of the 15-, 30-, and 60-second holes you hear, and is common practice on most stations that run a streaming audio feed.

21. Shakedown day

Guess they're having a little trouble getting their automation system going. I'm a little surprised about this as they have had weeks to get this right, and it's a little embarassing for a national network. Randi Rhodes' show on WJNO was as professionally produced as Limbaugh's and as another poster noted even Malloy working remotely from Atlanta through Cleveland was leaps and bounds ahead of this amateur night production.

Still, first day problems and I'm not complaining. I can't believe I have an entire talk radio network to listen to that doesn't make me sick to my stomach.

On another note, does anyone know if XM satellite radio is carrying the *full* programs? or just edited down versions? I heard somewhere that XM was cutting shows in time. With Air America going now I'm quite tempted to shell out for a XM receiver and subscription, but only if they are carrying the whole shebang.

22. The reception was horrible coming home

from work tonight at 10p.m. The reception going in to work was great (at noon) and I enjoyed the interview with Bob Kerry. I'm in the L.A. area and was looking forward to what was on for the drive home. I hope there were just some technical difficulties which I totally understand since it's brand new - hell, I'm just excited that it's happening at all!
