I mean I defy you to find a great quality dance song with song by someone with an amazing voice with the most daffy lyrics ever.

You can't so just post this reply - "Yes LynneSin you are absolfuckingly right!"

4. I could do without the Donna Summer version, but...
Maynard Ferguson's version (particularly live) was incredible.

Except - In Dave Berry's "Book of Bad Songs" he cited a reader poll naming "MacArthur's Park" the worst, most annoying song of all time and specifically mentioned the version by Donna Summer.

Just saying...

What an absolutely WILD coincidence. I bought Dave Berry's "Book of Bad Songs" Yesterday! No lie. Bought it in a second hand store. Read it last evening. Otherwise I would have never known this obscure factoid.

16. but, but, its true --
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacArthur_Park_(song)

The lyrics, which include the lines "Someone left the cake out in the rain/I don't think that I can take it/'Cause it took so long to bake it/And I'll never have that recipe again", are symbolic and metaphorical. The song begins as a poem about love, then moves into a lover's lament.<4> When asked by interviewer Terry Gross what was going through his mind when he wrote the lyrics, Webb replied that the lyrics were meant to be symbolic, and they referred to the end of a love affair.

:hi:

I love the Richard Harris original version

I saw that sketch when it first aired, and I've never forgotten it. I think about it whenever I hear that song on the radio.

God, I miss SCTV.

20. Only Waylon Jennings version counts...
...if only for the steel guitar.

If I had my life to live over again, I'd play steel guitar rather than do well, anything else.
