Anne Hathaway to play Catwoman in Batman 3
Tom Hardy to play Bane.

>>>
Crazy rumors about the cast for "The Dark Knight Rises," the third of director Christopher Nolan's Batman films, have been going on for so long that Vulture's Lane Brown gleefully made fun of the phenomenon seven months ago. At that point, the following human beings had been connected to the sequel: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Johnny Depp, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Cher, Eddie Murphy, Rachel Weisz, Miley Cyrus, Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox. This is a natural by-product of the Internet and of the massive success of "The Dark Knight," which Nolan turned into one of the biggest hits of all time, in some effect, through the casting of the late Heath Ledger as The Joker. This is the most prestigous, profitable franchise in Hollywood, and everyone wants a part.

And today, for the first time, after all the rumors have dissipated, we know who the villains in "The Dark Knight Rises" will be. Warner Bros just announced that Anne Hathaway will play Selina Kyle, and that Tom Hardy, of Nolan's "Inception," will play Bane. Christian Bale will be back as Batman, and Nolan has said this will be his final Batman film.

1. Surpised they're going with Bane
I thought they were trying to keep this franchise somewhat based in reality and away from the monsters like Killer Croc. Perhaps he'll be a wrestler jacked up on steroids?

3. Yes, they should go with the much more plausible villains like the Penguin and Dr. Freeze.

8. He did well at realityacizing Joker and Two-Face.
I can see Bane having some dark addiction issues, or something like that. Maybe he should be played by Lance Armstrong.

2. Much as I love Anne
(she's my girl crush), I really, REALLY wish they would just stop with the superhero movies. They're getting so tiresome... x(

7. They should worry more about critical acclaim, awards, and peer recognition.
Which of course still goes in favor of Nolan's "Batman." :P

9. Too many--that's my gripe
It's bandwagon mentality--"If that movie made kabillions, then let's make a hundred more just like it! We'll be filthy rich!" Lazy thinking. Bleah.

12. As opposed to, "nobody liked that movie, let's make a hundred more like it?"
I'm not sure you're point. Nolan has made two Batman films. Both were exceptional, not just as superhero films, but as films. You're saying he should stop making exceptional films because others have made bad films of the same genre? I don't get it. Every genre is mostly garbage, with a few bright spots--gangster, romance, drama, indie, you name it. Why should the handful of good filmmakers stop?

17. Wow, seriously?
Okay, let's try this again: Yes, some superhero movies made kabillions. Right. I admitted that. But then the bandwagon mentality (of the PRODUCERS/STUDIOS) takes over, and instead of taking a chance on a decent original idea, they go back to the well again and again and again, with the greedy hope that each subsequent superhero movie they dredge up will have the same success, until the whole thing gets tired. Makes more sense now?

Except that the puppets are better actors.

Within ten years I'm certain some plastic surgeon is going to come along and ruin that, at her request, in order to add a couple more years to her career.

24. good idea, but people also scoffed at Heath Ledger at the Joker
when it was initially announced. Then, Ledger gives a performance for the ages as The Joker.

25. Personally, I'm over the Anne Hathaway thing.
She's cute and seems kind of cool and quirky, but I don't know I'm just kind of tired of her. And I haven't even seen her in all THAT much stuff, I'm just tired of seeing her anywhere anymore.
