Inspired by Tobin, MFM is gonna hit the road again... though he's never had too much luck with that. |

4. I have picked up a hitch-hiker or two in my time |

That's a no-go now days. I stopped even considering the idea after I heard about a trucker who got killed by a couple of escaped inmates when he stopped to pick them up. I guess they were kinda like that fella in your OP. If I remember right that happened in Arizona. Say, you are joking aren't you? :P

5. I think the last time I hitchhiked was in 1972 to a music festival in Goose Creek, Michigan. |

. . . 60 miles from where I was living. I left at midnight (KNEW I would not wake up the next morning and feel motivated to go). . It took me 30 minutes to go the first 30 miles and 6 hours to go the next 30 (but I got picked up by a carful of hippies who bought me some breakfast and gave me the $2.00 I was short for my ticket). . I was, BTW... a hippie, too. . . . Hitchhiked home around 10 or 11 PM (after it was over) and it took me JUST over an hour for the 60 miles -- guy dropped me off at my front door. . . . Yes... they WERE the good ol' days. . . .
