eBay Sellers: Please don't use dirty diapers as packing materials |
|
My better half received a package today of vintage Xmas ornaments from a seller from Mississippi. They were wrapped in old infant clothing and a disposable diaper that had a slight yellow tinge and predictable odor. She was horrified.
We're trying to think of a pithy comment to leave that will be useful to future buyers. Can you help us?

1. Leave explicit negative feedback and report the seller to eBay. |

5. Disposable diaper sticky tape can play terrible tricks on you. |
|
When my kids were babies I remember a couple of times diapers went hitchhiking.
I think the odds are good the seller would be horrified too.

7. i'm not joking when I say this |
|
...that is a fucking bio hazard.
I would report their asses. and find out if that is even legal.
As one who changes diapers for a living (I'm working in child care), I would be fucking fired....F I R E D.... if I even handled a diaper without gloves. or fired for not disposing of it properly.
I would report them on their rating, report them to ebay.... and fucking report them to their local agency...if you know where they live.
where is the fucking baby. wow.
give me a freaking break.
i would be horrified too.

11. In addition to all of that, I suspect that the USPS would like to hear about it |
|
They have pretty tight restrictions on what you can and can't send, and I'm pretty sure that "used diapers" are on the "NO" list.

Like out of date? The diaper was dry? I am thinking the seller had packed these away in a hurry a while ago and then didn't repack them to send, just put the box in the mail. Either that or you are dealing with mental illness. Contact the seller, find out more before you cause someone grief. Also, dried urine should pose no threat. It is icky, but in terms of microbes, not a big deal.

12. So if you were sleeping at a friend's house, and their only spare blanket was full of dried urine.. |
|
would you still consider it no big deal?

Of course I would wonder. Wonder if my friend had lost it. This is what I am saying. Why I wanted to know if the clothes were outdated. I am guessing, the baby is grown now, that years back, when said babe was still in diapers, mom was harried when packing away xmas things. Now, think about why anyone gets rid of xmas ornaments? This may be an estate sale and the seller never looked any further into the box than to identify contents. I just don't think it is as cut and dried as some slob thinks dirty diapers are good packing material.

15. Perhaps I don't understand why you go to such lengths to justify the seller's irresponsibility |
|
Edited on Sat Jan-22-11 09:58 AM by Orrex
It's up to the seller to identify what they're selling, at least to the extent that it's clean and safe to ship. If these facts can't be guaranteed, then these must be disclosed in advance. "Caveat emptor" notwithstanding, it's not up to the buyer to do the seller's job for them.
Let's suppose that "the seller never looked any further into the box than to identify contents" and that the box also contained 100 grams of cocaine. If the USPS happened to discover this during shipment, would the seller be off the hook for the same reason?
Ultimately, here are all of the facts that are relevant: dirty diapers were used as packing material. Any speculations about busy mothers or somber estate sales are incidental and, ultimately, irrelevant.

16. Wasn't there a story recently about cocaine in a vacuum? |
|
It was posted here, that a vacuum purchased as refurbished contained quite a bit of packaged cocaine. I agree, along the way, the seller missed a step or just messed up. I agree with that, I am just saying there are probably extenuating circumstances.

17. I see what you're saying, but the extenuating circumstances only serve as backstory |
|
They don't justify the seller's carelessness nor absolve them of responsibility for it.
Didn't hear the story about the vacuum, though!

18. I am always interested in the backstory |

And I agree, something went awry, just what to do about it, that is the problem. Here is a link to the speed/cocaine in the vacuum story. I felt shades of No Country For Old Men, when I read this. Someone is missing their drugs. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x213122

I just got a package of Shiny Brite bells from eBay. Unlike your package, my ornaments came in pristine wrapping with a nice note. The seller even gave me a gift. It was a small Shiny Brite ornament from her inventory. She is from California, and a wonderful seller. Of course, the majority of them are good people, or they would not last long. I am sorry you had such a smelly experience.
