I am a 45 year old woman
I have an accounting degree and work in a CPA firm as a tax accountant.

And today I wore a long sleeve shirt when I met my parents for lunch so that they wouldn't see the new tattoo on the inside of my arm.

I got a small one on my ankle 5 years ago and I STILL hear about it when they catch site of it. I don't know how long I can hide the new one but as long as I do I don't have to listen to my dad gripe about it.

Sheesh

1. I hid my tattoo from my mom & dad
- they never saw it.

I'm more amazed that an accountant has a tattoo! :D

2. I'm not the usual stuffy boring accountant.
The partners in my firm haven't seen the new ink yet and I am sure they won't like it.

But I don't really care. If I have to help rich jerks lower their tax bill and then still hear them bitch about what they owe, I have to act out somehow (instead of slapping them)

3. Yes, the tattoo is the better option
Mr Gut is a conservative sort, but just announced he may get a tat. He has been watching Sons Of Anarchy, as long as he doesn't start calling me "woman" I am cool with a tattoo.

4. My mom is the kind of mom that gets a tattoo first and calls me a wimp

13. That's what I did, too.
To my girls, that is. My son is way too much Mr. Eagle Scout to ever get at tattoo.

5. What is the tattoo?
Gotta be pretty badass to hide it from your folks.

6. I'm guessing it was the time/value of money formula..
..or the formula for calculating compound interest. If you are a CPA, those are handy -- you'd want them close by.

9. It's Ganesh and it isn't what it is that makes me hide it
it is the fact that I have it at all. My dad would keep harping on and on about it. Like he did when I got my other one or when I got my ears pierced when I was 16 and the again when I was 18. I thought I would NEVER hear the end of it. And he actually still brings it up

10. I like Ganesh
:D

That's an interesting minimalist kind of design, too

Maybe get your father a book on the history of tattooing and have him read it before he harps on you about having one at all ;)

(I have no tattoos but am not bothered by others having them.)

7. Yeah, I remember when it was sort of new to my parents.

Sorry to hear that they aren't as accepting to tattoos, as my family is / was.

I have not had any new tattoo work since 2003, and that was just to color-in part of a large, still unfinished tattoo. The only people who have given me grief since then, are kind of, small-town people, backwoods-type.

I'm exactly 40, and I have college degrees, too. I have a useless Masters, if you really want to know.

My dad passed away 2 years ago at age 78. He never gave a flying fig about my tattoos, which was very cool.

Edit to add about when it was new to my parents: I just went ahead and did it, and they had to live with it.

I consider myself very lucky, my parents are very accepting of me, no matter what. As long as I stay sober and don't drink-and-dial.

11. If the partners fire you for it, come to Georgia!
A 45 year-old, liberal woman who is capable of doing all my work for me sounds like something out of a dream. ;)

12. Twenty years from now
you'll STILL be their baby, and you'll hide the tattoo.

It never ends.
