happy ending to cat story |
|
The beautiful black cat that I rescued last week after it jumped out of a moving pickup truck has gone home with its loving owners tonight.
Please please tag your animal with a phone number or license. Not every kitty is going to be found by someone who cares. Make it easy for your pet to get home to you.
Kitty's name turns out to be Ricky, and the girl who owns it was able to identify its special markings.
All's well that ends well, but please tag your pet. It only takes a moment for it to disappear forever.

1. by the way, it was the signs on telephone poles that led to the owner |
|
Nobody responded on craigslist or internet site, but someone in the family DID see signs on the telephone poles in the neighborhood.
Never give up.

2. You gave the cat back to the same people who let it jump out of |
|
a pick up truck? A cat should never be allowed to jump out of a pick up truck. If it was being carried, it should have been in a secure carrier. dc

The owners have no idea how the cat got into someone's pickup truck. It had obviously climbed in and hidden under the tarp. Probably asleep when the truck started, and took the first opportunity to jump out.

4. Hubby lost a cat in a similar way |
|
Some friends left their car windows open during a visit. The cat must have climbed in and hidden when they got back to drive home, ninety miles away. They did not know the cat was in the car until they got out and the cat made a run for it. They recognized him and hunted for him for weeks, but never saw him again.
He had been semi-feral when hubby adopted him off the street and had finally gotten used to hubby, but was still shy around other people. We even drove to the neighborhood where he was last seen and spent a couple of days looking for him, but we never saw him, either. We assume he returned to his feral life style. At least he had vaccinations and a few months of a domesticated life.

5. I think it's not unusual |
|
I will never forget the sight of that cat spread-eagled flying through the air jumping out of that truck. It took us seven hours to coax him out of the thorny bushes where he ran to hide. Poor poor kitty.
We got many queries from people whose cats are still missing after months. It's sure a lesson to be sure the pet is tagged with a contact number or microchip tag.

7. Yeah - when hubby lost his, it was long before microchips |
|
It was a few years before we married and that has been over thirty three years. I still wonder how that poor cat ended up - he was sweet once he realized we were being nice to him.
My current kitty has a chip - no way I can put a collar on him so he will never have that way of marking him. I need to check to see if I ever registered his chip, but he was chipped when I adopted him from the shelter and they would have the contact info.
