1. wasn't that just dismal? I can suspend reality for a good non-reality flick
but that movie just takes the fucking cake. I feel stupider having watched it. It was way too long...If memory serves, it was over 2 hours...or maybe it was just time dragging because of the ridiculous movie. And hay look! We're driving a limo through scenes of crashing landscapes and uprooted ground. Oh hay now we're driving a winnebago through scenes of crashing landscapes and uprooted ground. Oh hay now we're flying an airplane through scenes of crashing landscapes and uprooted ground.

It was like a hanna barbera cartoon where they just use the same background in a loop whenever the characters are running...tree, stump, grass, mountain. Tree, stump, grass, mountain, etc etc

6. My biggest gripe of all is how well the kids and everybody handled the entire city collapsing
They really took it in stride. Dakota Fanning freaked the fuck out in War of the Worlds.

3. I had an odd fascination w/disaster movies as a kid.
Beginning w/the 1974 'Towering Inferno' http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072308/

I watched it again as an adult a few years ago and now wonder... What was I thinking? It seems so poorly done to me now.

The mid and late 70's gave us a lot of cheesy disaster movies. I'm not sure if I'd want to even bother w/2012 but I bet it's no worse then a lot of those 70's 'blockbusters' (lol) :-)

8. Yeah, you're right
Your simple 3 letter adjective 'bad' describes the movie much better. It did win 3 Oscars at least, and I've always liked Steve McQueen. :-)

7. My favorite part was near the end of the movie when the engines wouldn't run because a door was
partly open, and the entire ships was at risk. No one had ever heard of jumping the limit switch!
