Oasis has successfully managed to produce albums. I guess. I don't know. I haven't listened to any of them.

3. Rush is a great band.

I particularly like their early stuff, Caress of Steel, 2112...

Signals and Subdivisions were also good albums, but their more inventive music, IMO were in their earlier years, when they pioneered that unmistakable Rush sound.

6. RABBLE!! RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!!
Just figured I'd get on the attack before anyone else. Seriously, though, my take on Rush is this: for such a shockingly, absurdly, ridiculously talented band, they really don't play very good music. I mean, it's not like they're one of my least favorites or anything, I could take them or leave them, but in light of how stupifyingly skilled everyone in the band is, I guess I just expect more.

Oasis ... weren't they some band in the 1990s?

13. I literally am indifferent to Oasis.
I guess I know their stuff though I can't name a song off the top of my head. I probably wouldn't turn them off if they came on the radio but I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to them.
As for Rush, well, for the handful of people who don't know...I have tickets to a concert in Baltimore (row 16 from the stage) in April, to see them play live for the second time since last fall....:woohoo:

15. I still yet to see Rush in concert but I do want to go
The closest I came was the day after the Live Earth concert at the Meadowlands. Rush was playing the next day at PNC in New Jersey and we decided we'd drive by and see if tickets were available. Then the one girl found out a close family member passed away that morning and we had to rush to get her home to her family.

I'll get there one day!

Taking their audience back to the days of Moving Pictures...when they didn't suck. The Beasties just did a revisited of "Fight for Your Right..." with half of Hollywood as the cast. Playing at Sundance. But, whatever.

54. Rush will still be on the radio a hundred years from now.
The Beastie Boys are just a footnote, regardless of how many art films they make out of their old songs. I also like how you cited Rush playing the "Moving Pictures" album as a sign that their best days are behind them while touting the Beasties' remake of a 25-year-old song.

Oh, and the "still relevant" has to do with their new flick being at Sundance, not the song itself. Thinking does go a long way.

I really, really like Rush. I never took too much notice of the bass player but,
while I usually loathe the high-voiced metal screamer vocalists, Geddy Lee is
somehow different. I always wonder if, like the great Italian castrati of old,
he's sacrificed his testicles for his art.
.
It seems like otherwise they would implode.

And Neil Peart, IMHO... is the greatest rock drummer EVER (at least until I
remember about Terry Bozzio with Frank Zappa).

I don't own any of the albums. Oasis are amusing with their pomposity and antagonism towards pretty mch everybody it would seem. And while it pains me to admit it Champagne Supernova is a pretty cool tune, but other than that they don't do a lot for me.

49. Of course, when I think of "rock", the first thing that comes to mind is "Madonna".
But yeah, she gets in and musicians that, you know, actually play rock and roll music with a massive fanbase and the same line-up since 1975 are on the outside looking in.

51. Rush > Oasis
Rush:

Excellent musicianship all around. I'm becoming more and more of an Alex Lifeson fan as the years roll by. Everybody knows about Neil Peart. Geddy's bass playing is great as well. Keyboards are plenty competent.

Songwriting is hit or miss for me. Lots of songs I love, and lots I can live without. Lyrics are sometimes great, sometimes not-so-much, but always intelligent.

Highlights for me include 2112, The Trees, Spirit of the Radio, Tom Sawyer, Subdivisions, New World Man, Red Sector A, Earthshine.

My all time favorite - Limelight.

Oasis:

Underrated band. Musicianship is good. Writes catchy songs with an attempt at being Beatlesque, but reminds me more of solo George Harrison or the poppier songs done by the Kinks. Obviously, their songwriting does not compare to their lofty idols, but compared to what passes for songcraft today ... not bad.

Liam Gallagher's nasaly singing voice may not be everyone's cup of tea, but then again, his vocals are much more accessible than Geddy Lee's. (At least in the early years; Geddy's voice has aged nicely to me.)

Highlights for me include Live Forever, Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova, Cast No Shadow.

My all time favorite - Don't Look Back in Anger.

Rush was fronted by some big nosed guy with long hair who screeched out his lyrics with a Canadian accent. Oasis was fronted by some big nosed guy with semi-long hair who screeched out his lyrics with a put on Liverpool accent. I don't understand why people are DEVOTED to either but what do I know?
