the West Stronghold (Cochise Stronghold in the Dragoon Mountains)

bajadas of the Dragoons

cattle drifting along the ridge

paint coyote in the grass

irons in the fire, the old fashioned way

Lupe trying to be a cow dog

waiting for the gate to open (cute little longhorn baby)

nice and easy out the gate

1. Thanks for the great pics, Kali!
Everything is all wet and mossy here so it's always nice to see what a little sunshine is like!

4. The 3rd one and the cowboy one would make great paintings
They are good as photos too. The Dragoon Mountains are dramatic, can't imagine why I haven't heard of them until now.

12. VERY cool!!! I live here... and even I think your shots are incredible, both close-up and far-range.
.
.
.
I didn't know you had longhorns (the most Hollywood iconic and dramatic looking cattle, I think).
.
.
.
And what the heck are "bajadas".
.
.
.
I always thought I had two of them.

15. thanks!
we have a little of everything! the longhorns were bought kind of as a joke about 15 years ago, they are fascinating - very cat-like, graceful, lithe, intelligent and freaking independent! they have been um, educational to put it mildly.

bajadas are those outflows of material (alluvial fans) that are basically the foothills of mountains, especially in arid environments.

36. the west- the spirit- the mountains - the animals -
the big open spaces- I envy you. I've always lived in the Northeast amid lots of deciduous trees, cities, towns and water.

Just lovely.

33. Why are the cows in the last picture wearing tea bags?...
at first glance they look like those hats with the tea bags hanging down. :D

The pictures are beautiful. I am frightened of horses and cows so I would not want to be so close! I do kinda want to pet the baby longhorn. :hi:
