I'm itching to find more stuff for my Ipod. DUers seem to have great taste in music!

Anyone posting a link to a Rick Roll will have their favorite body parts infected with the bubonic plague, shrivel up and fall off.

1. Buena Vista Social Club
They're made up of elderly cuban musicians who can put younger musicians to shame. Very talented. Very mellow. Very sexy. If you're sitting down, you'll be chair-dancing. If you're up and walking around, you'll be making a fool of yourself. Have fun!

Carl Lekenbusch (sp?) has some very nice deep house/dark house music, new to me.

the Decemberists have a new album, with a kind of country feel to it...haven't got it yet, but hear it's good! :-)

A lot of his side projects kick ass. Check out Blackfield and Bass Communion.

22. Where did you find Misplaced Childhood?
Edited on Sun Feb-06-11 09:51 AM by travelingtypist
It's been one of my favorites for going on 30 years now, but I very rarely come across anybody who's even heard of Marillion, much less this great, great album.

6. Here's my top 10 albums of 2010:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dan-sweeney/everyones-a-critic-the-to_b_795216.html

2011 is young yet, but a few good albums have come out in January. Gregg Allman's new solo record ain't bad, as far as the old guys go. I also like the new Decemberists, Social Distortion and Cake. As far as new acts, I'm excited by the sophomore set from the Smith Westerns.

15. The Decemberists CD is AMAZING - I like the fact they got back to basics
I didn't care for the prog-rock direction, even though they tried risks.

A couple other new albums from 2011 that I love are Natalie Acciani's Dangerous Thing and The Civil Wars' Barton Hollow.

8. Nine Black Alps.
I'm like 5 years late to this band.

A good heavy two-guitar hard rock band from Manchester.

They've gone indy with distro and vids with the last album.

10. Matthew Sweet's "Sick of Myself" is a perfect power-pop gem...killer hook.
And no, it's not a Rick Roll.

Jeez...do ONE Rick Roll and you're BRANDED for LIFE. Well, OK...do a couple of hundred Rick Rolls and you're branded for life.

:-)

This is the "official" video for the song. I especially like the fake endings...so cheesy, co cool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRF_qOJfaDs

16. SACRED STEEL! Aubrey Ghent.......
I heard a live album by Aubrey and I think it might have been the best music I ever heard. Total balls to the walls. Gospel steel music. Rollicking. http://www.aubreyghent.com/

Over the last week I have been looking a lot at that genre of music, the Lee Boys are friends of mine and I love Robert Randolph. Aubry has son who is in another band called Raizor too.

18. Ooh, my favorite topic!
Just a few of the new (to me, anyway) artists who have been piquing my interest lately:

Grace Potter & the Nocturnals - The video for "Paris" is sex (THIS IS NOT A SEX THREAD!) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHlhOgQ36m8
Band of Horses - "Loredo" is my favorite off their most recent release - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YH8QICzCO8g
Band of Skulls - "Light of the Morning" is featured in a recent commercial for Ford Mustangs - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljYO58FrR_E
Mumford and Sons - "The Cave" and "Little Lion Man" have been moderate hits recently, but my favorite is "After the Storm" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqUsAHTUPTU
Bruno Mars - What can I say? This guy is everywhere right now. Fantastic initial effort, and he's featured on several other artist's recent releases. "Grenade" is his current single. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SR6iYWJxHqs

21. Glasser!
I was not hip to Glasser's album when it came out last year, which I have chosen to blame on my so-called friends. I will not repeat their mistake with regards to the denizens of the Lounge.

24. Warpaint - Undertow

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMkqbY0oGKQ

Your brown eyes are my blue skies.
They light up the river that the birds fly over.
Better not to quench your thirst.
Better not to be the first one diving in,
though you caught me and you know why
they breathe in the deepest part of the water.

What's the matter? You hurt yourself?
Opened your eyes and there was someone else?
Now i've got you in the undertow.
Now i've got you in the undertow.
Why you wanna blame me for your troubles?
Ah ah ah you better learn your lesson yourself.
Nobody ever has to find out what's in my mind tonight.

Let tonight pass us by.
Do you really want to be the one to fight?
And i said "You're better not to light that fire.
It will take you to the darkest part of the weather."

Nobody ever has to find out what's in my mind tonight.

Nobody in my mind. Nobody in my mind.
I feel it in my heart tonight.

I laid on the floor, pressing in my eyes.
Seeing little lights.
These are the decisions that only one could make(?)
I wanted to stay home but i went running running running running from the troubles
runningrunningrunningrunningrunningrunnirunning

What's the matter? You hurt yourself?
Opened your eyes and there was someone else?
Now i've got you in the undertow
Now i've got you so
why you wanna blame me for your troubles?
Ah ah ah you better learn your lesson yourself.
Nobody ever has to find out what's in my mind tonight.
Nobody ever has to find out what's in my mind tonight.

25. I'm nuts about the new Beth Ditto :)
I don't know much to add, I've been listening to too much 40's and 50's music lately. I'm just typing something here so I can remember in the morning to look back at what everyone added, I can see there's some stuff I need to sample on itunes tomorrow!!
