She had an aura of RUIN; she was TIRED.....you can't hide "beat".
And when I looked in her eyes,
they were blue but no one was home....

Well she coulda been a KILLER
if she didn't walk the way she do,
(and she DO)
She'd opened strange doors that could never be closed up again.

I was with my EX, "the lovely Esmerelda"
for nine years and a week.

It ended- it needed to end, and I certainly
don't ever want to go back there.

But when it was good, it was AMAZING,
and I'm far enough past the pain of the breakup
that when I get feeling a bit "sentimental"
late at night, I only remember the GOOD times.

She is just about the most AMAZING human being
I have ever met, and that's saying alot.<\>

It's funny- I don't MISS her, but I am constantly
aware of her ABSENSE.

Life is strange.

3. Well, why am I smiling too?
The BAD parts were very ORDINARY...
(not my first ride in a police car)
but the GOOD parts were just so great,
I have no words for them.

She's one of those people who is so SPECIAL
that she has no idea how SPECIAL she is.

That David Bowie song
is the best way I can tell y'all about HER.

She asked me if I could stay, and I stole a room.
She asked for my LOVE and I gave her a dangerous mind.

6. Yes. That's the problem. I hope you don't mind if I steal that phrase for my new SigLine.
That just explains SOOO MUCH of the way my life is right now.

5. Actually, she had "a horror of rooms".
But zebras are black with white stripes, so I like it.

7. I met Mr. Bowie once, and asked him about that line....
Edited on Sun Jan-30-11 03:23 PM by Richard Steele
He said that he liked the phrase "an aura of ruin"
much more than what he had originally written and sung.

He said it made more sense with what he had in mind at the time,
and maybe that's why he sang it that way, what with
the subconscious mind running our lives the way it does.

He had worked very hard on that piece of music,
starting with that crazy galloping drum rhytm,
but the LYRICS were just some incomplete notes on a napkin
when he entered the recording booth.

You know the line "She wailed like Jimi's guitar sound"?
He never wrote that down.

On the third run-through, laying down the vocals,
he felt like he was finally singing it all just right,
but he was getting some PAINFUL feedback in his headphones,
and it kinda reminded him of "Third Stone from the Sun",
so he charged ahead and sang that line on the fly.

He made it up right on the spot, and told them to use that TAKE.
They played it back to him, and he told them he was DONE.
And he was.

You're probably right about the Zebras though,
so let's NOT start a fistfight if we ever meet, OK?
