3. I've seen that around here, too
I think it's a reminder that you shouldn't ask for everything to be 'given' to you, rather, to behave in a way that is pleasing and worshipful to God?

6. It means the bearer thinks this country is run
by a bunch of godless heathens, sinners and blasphemers.

7. there used to be an 'america bless god' church here..
it occupied the old Cinerama in Fashion Valley. That was the theatre I first saw Star Wars. They tore it down recently, so I don't where the church went. I think they chose that name because the domain god bless America.com had already been taken.

10. I saw Star Wars at that theater too!
I'm from San Diego, and my grandmother took me to tons of movies there. It was a kind of ugly modern round looking theater building. I moved from SD when it was the America Bless God/The bible said it, I believe it, that settles it church, but before it was torn down.

I think the America Bless God just means that they are saying we have to toe the good "Murrican Christian line to show our respect for the big guy, and not just keep asking him to bless us all the time. What goes around comes around. Makes me glad to be an atheist.

11. Cool, another San Diegan...
...I saw the huge sign billboard too, right off the I8, now it's gone. I also saw Star Wars for the first time at that same theater.

12. I often hear fundys at my wife's church extending "blessings to You, God",
which sounds awfully strange to my Methodist ears. I really don't think we can bless God. I think that's a one way street. This must be more of the same weird fundy stuff.

13. I saw a few around here, so I googled it a while back...
Edited on Thu Apr-01-04 01:02 PM by Lisa0825
One page I found said that "God Bless America" is like asking God to do something for us, when we should really be acting in a way that is grateful for the good things we have... I think it's a nice sentiment. I hate to see "God Bless America" stickers. I think the reverse sounds like a better attitude to me.

On a related note.. I saw a sticker last week that said, "God Bless the Whole Wide World. No exceptions."

edited to add:

Ugh... it was a few months ago that I googled it... now the first site that comes up is www.americablessgod.com, and it does sound funy-ish... oh well. I like the other explanation better!
