1. During my 2-week honeymoon trip 30 years ago: Young's By the Sea in Gulf Shores, AL. |
|
On our way home we saw this quaint, seemingly charming motel next to a large Holiday Inn. Having stayed in a Holiday Inn in two different areas already, we chose the YBTS. The first indication that we made a bad choice was having to walk to the office for bath towels & soap. The tv was located on top of the refrigerator in the tiny closet-sized kitchen, with a divan situated so close that your head was way back when watching it.
And the room was so musty, even the bedding was reeking. We laughed & laughed -- reminded me of when I was a little giggly girl who couldn't stop giggling during inappropriate times; you try to get serious but can't. As bad as the room was, it gave us a fun memory.

2. I read a few pages of the reviews for the #1 worst hotel. |
|
Wow. :wow: I can't believe any owner would be allowed to get away with crap like that. I think the moral of this story is: read the reviews on Trip Advisor before you book anywhere!!!

3. I actually wouldn't be suprised if some of those reviews in PF |
|
weren't posted by the competition. There are soooo many hotels in the area that it gets really competative.

My wife screamed from the shower and, rushing in, I saw the poisonous frog that was sharing the shower stall with her!

9. I spent 4 nights at the Jack London Inn. Must depend on the room... |
|
We raised our eyebrows when we first got there because the "front" office was connected to the parking garage in the back. The people at the front desk were extremely nice. We stayed in a suite and it was HUGE! Had a king size bed, a couch, a desk, a dining table for four, a separate wet bar and refrigerator and a ton of wide open space.
The furniture looked like it was from the seventies but the bedding was new and everything was clean. The armoire that held the tv looked out of place because it seemed newer and in a different style. Like somebody buys the furniture at estate sales.
Internet worked great (I'm sure I posted to du, lol!) The trains run all day and all night but since I grew up hearing trains at night, I slept like a baby.
We have stayed in many hotels and I wouldn't stay in a place that smelled or seemed dirty. Maybe it depends on the room or management at the time?
The worst hotel experience I've ever had was the Ritz Carlton Las Vegas (Henderson).
